Giant Rings:
Throughout every zone are giant rings, which take you to UFO special stages. If you successfully complete a stage you will unlock one of the seven Chaos Emeralds. There are a total of seven stages in sequence no matter where you find them. All seven Chaos Emeralds must be collected in order to unlock Super Sonic and see the true ending.



UFO Special Stages:
The UFO Special Stages are based on the special stages seen in Sonic CD. UFO Special Stages have you run around a track chasing a UFO holding the Emerald. At the beginning of the race the UFO will be much faster than you and your only hope of catching it is by collecting Blue Orbs. Collecting Blue Orbs will increase your speed. Once you hit Mach 3 you will be fast enough to catch up to the UFO. It is important to note that collecting rings will also increase the amount of time you have to try and catch the UFO.


Rings that are picked up are not restored on the next lap, whereas Blue Orbs regenerate on every lap. You may also have to jump to avoid holes in the track that end your run, collect item boxes and avoid obstacles.

You will need to find a balance between collecting enough Rings to increase your time and collecting Blue Orbs to increase your speed. Choosing the right paths through the course can significantly decrease the amount of time it takes to catch up to the UFO

Some courses have item boxes that give you Rings, Blue Orbs or instantly level up your Mach level - finding these is helpful, if not essential.

If you have already beat the core game in Sonic Mania then you will have unlocked stage select. Select Green Hill Zone from the stage select menu and use the first giant ring in he game over and over exiting the zone every time you get a Chaos Emerald. This process can be done on any level however access to the giant ring in green hill zone is easy and straight forward.


NOTE: There are several ways to do this. Some are much faster but this is the most straight forward way.

The first stage is more of a simple introduction to this mini-game. There are plenty of opportunities to collect blue orbs by running in the middle of where they appear. As long as you keep an eye on your ring count, and don't hit the edges of the stage too many times, you should catch the UFO fairly easily.

This course is split up into two at certain points. For your first lap you should use the outside route and gain as many blue orbs as possible. Then for the second lap follow the inside route to ensure that you will keep up with the UFO. Once you leave the inside route, the second corner after has two item boxes, one of which will instantly level your Mach level. IF you get the boxes catching the UFO should be easy.

This stage introduces springboards which can be use to reach rings that are up high. Ne sure to grab as many blue orbs as you can on the outsides of the track but be sure to cut the insides of the track once you've got a healthy number of orbs to start catching up with the UFO.

In this stage there are three ring item boxes to find that will massively extend your time limit. One of which is found by jumping over a spring board, and another just as you cut the inside of a track. This stage has bombs and tight corners making it tricky to stay on track. If you were able to grab all three item boxes you should have enough rings available to play it safe and reach the UFO.

On the plus side this stage has a massive amount of rings and blue orbs. The down side is that it can be easy to lose track of the UFO. There are three item boxes that you are essential to get as well as a Mach upgrade at the end of the left patch close to the end. Be sure to concentrate on upgrading to Mach 3 and cutting corners to eventually catch the UFO.

A series of ramps at the very begging of this stage can give you a massive amount of rings. Do this once on the first lap but after that jump over each one to save time. There is a good amount of rings and item boxes on this track one of which in the middle of a circular area that requires a sharp left turn. The hardest par of this track is staying alive once you have reached Mach 3. Your best option is to play it safe and use the outside of the track to slow you down and avoid the bombs. If you collected a bunch of rings at the begging you will have plenty of time to chase down the UFO.

In the final UFO Special Stage the most difficult part will be staying alive once you hit Mach 3. There will be plenty of rings, blue orbs, and item boxes on the track. Once you have reach Mach 3 use the edges of the track to slow down and cut corners so you line up in the middle of the track instead of swinging out wide. Once you complete this track you will have all seven Chaos Emeralds!

Q: Isn't there a faster way to UFO Special Stage farm?
A: Yes, but the way shown in this guide is the most basic and easy to attain by most players. There are several ways to get to a giant ring very fast and if you know one use it.

Q: How do you turn Super?
A: Jump with the "A" button and then press "Y" while you are in the air. You must have at least 50 rings.
