I recommend the game in just two cases:
✔️ You played the game as a kid and you want to play it again with widescreen support even if the remaster itself is not that great (broken sprites, cutscenes with the sides blurred out, etc).
✔️ You're looking for an old-school JRPG with likeable characters and a very positive (sometimes caricaturistically so) story.

Otherwise, the game didn't age well in my humble opinion. It's extremely repetitive and doesn't have much variety or depth. You can't choose your party members (they come and go as the story dictates), there's not much party management or builds and the story stretches out too much repeating the same information you already know over and over again. It's the typical game that, when everything has been revealed and you know what you've got to do and even what the final boss will be, you'll still have to be bounced around several places for no reason (many of which have been already visited by you during the game).

Either way, overall it's fun if you like this type of game and if you play it with patience it can last around 30h or so (I have more because of the save system, but in realty I played for less than 30h) and like I said earlier the characters are very likeable.

great game, they just don't make them like this any more

The game itself is good, but did have one gripe about it. The problem is the ending, felt disappointing to say the least.
