Crossfire: Sierra Squad is a dumb fun arcadey shooter, like Call of Duty in VR. Just be sure to use Realism mode, because default Arcade is slow and boring, with distracting healthbars everywhere.

Realism setting partially turns the game into a cover shooter and makes it much more tactical and challenging. Time to kill for most enemies and the player becomes around 0.5-1 second, and that highly improves pacing of Crossfire, providing frantic non-stop action on every levels from start to finish.

However, the game was not initially designed to be played this way. A lot of fights, especially in Squad missions, will have several enemies shooting at you at the same time with no option to hide in cover from everyone at once and not enough time to react to quickly spawned in reinforcements. The leads to many quick and inescapable deaths. Frequent checkpoints will elevate most of the frustration from it, but there are a lot parts in Squad missions where there are not enough checkpoints in a long difficult firefights. Sniper duel missions are the worst example of this.

Another thing to keep in mind about Crossfire is that, despite its impressive visuals, it is still an indie game with limited budget. Squad missions reuse the same locations from main campaign (even though they do it intelligently by changing players route through the level and enemy spawn locations), environments are not interactable and almost entirely not destructible, ally AI is braindead. The latter is really weird, because enemy AI appear impressively competent.
