When I bought the game I was not informed I would need the manual in order to play the game! Can anyone help me with this?...

No matter what I try in negotiations, whether bribing him a bunch or having my diplomat character try a truce (which even results in him being "pleased") or whatever, he usually attacks me, or occasionally leaves, and then of course attacks me the next time I try coming back into the store to talk to him. I try to open the Gold Edition, but it just says "Failed to Open Movie" and shows me a black box. Is there anything even different in the Gold Edition?
