Switching between two characters and the train level are the highlights of 0 for me. The inventory management and lack of item boxes are really what killed my enjoyment of this entry. The level design otherwise and the monster/boss design just don't live up to the standards of the original RE, especially the remake. I'd recommend playing RE1's remake instead of this, it's much more enjoyable.

Even though it was released after the first Resident Evil (2002) remake, this game still misses almost every core concept of the original Resident Evil trilogy.

TLDR:

IF you are an old timer RE fan (original trilogy fan specially) OR are on a trip to play all RE games OR just wanna play it and give it a taste:
> do it, although I would recommend NORMAL or EASY difficulties as anything harder than that may get very frustrating.

ELSE:
> just don't; the game is mediocre at best and there are other RE games that would suit better for both original or new RE enjoyers or even newcomers.

1. doesn't add anything relevant to the plot;
   
2. poor design for enemies;
   
3. enemies have few to none damage feedback. When an enemy is bound to hit you, most of the time, hitting it mid attack animation won't prevent the monster from hitting/grabbing you;
   
4. enemies may camp doors (as a side effect of the interchangeable character mechanics) and insta grab you the moment you enter the room/area;
   
5. tough enemies may need a bunch shots to get dispatched;
   
6. the possibility of exchanging items is cool at first but gets really clunky as you progress;
   
7. some game mechanics get very inefficient due to menu/dialogue navigation speed. e.g., the item elevator thingy;
   
8. some quick enemies also hit using a minimum amount of frames, with no balance between movement and attack speed whatsoever: the moment they reach you, the insta hit you, no escape;
   
9. enemies may stun lock you to death with quick hits. e.g., monkeys as they are usually found in packs of 2 or more;
   
10. triggering some game events disable one of the two characters and then you are expected manage the situation with the remaining one. e.g., the centipede (boss fight) grabs rebecca, so you have to fight and save her using billy, what means if you have your main equipment placed on rebecca's inventory, you are screwed as you can't use those items. so in that specific case if your spare equipment is not enough or you don't have the ability of foresight, you are expected to die, reset, exchange equipment and try again;
    
11. in hard difficulty, some sections may get very frustrating sometimes, as enemies get huge amounts of HP and become virtually damage sponges;
    
12. poor design for boss fights. e.g., the queen leech fight mimics the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis final boss fight gimmick to a point even the creature design is similar;

waste of time. ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gameplay, even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story (doesn't add anything to the main storyline)

it took me 20+ hours to beat the game, i spent at least 10+ hours carrying items from room to room just because you don't have the classic chest mechanic in this game. (DON'T FORGET THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DOOR ANIMATION YOU HAVE TO WATCH EACH TIME YOU ENTER A ROOM)

the game wants you to predict the future (what kind of monsters you will fight, what kind of weapons you should bring etc.), and if you don't, you die and start from your last save from an hour ago

overall, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game in the franchise. if you are not really obsessed with playing all the RE games, you can skip this one
