My review is inteded for those who sought this game under the same premise as I, that being, they played DtS 1 and 2, maybe the older hitman titles too, and wanted some more of the same good experience.

Initially I saw many bad reviews and I though, "nah, they have to be exagerating, right?" Well... yes and no. The game came close to being decent (not GOOD, but decent), but fell short of it. I now consider this a bad purchase.

I will detail some of the things that turned the boat upside down for me. I imagine that players of DtS 1 and 2, who liked them as much as me, already know those two well and that will save me from explaining exactly what I mean, allowing me to skip directly to "what I was expecting but didn't get". Those are:

1 - The story is damn very convoluted and, in fact, uncomprehensible. The story is just a sidenote in games like this of course, but damn, this one is bad and hard to understand and follow. It is a double defetc as the briefing to the missions are somewhat overlaped with the between-mission storyboards and, more than once, I began a mission not really understanding what the goals where. Also, since we're at it, mere clicking 'objecives' doesnt help a lot, you have to kinda guess things. Bad game design if you ask me. The objecives tab is there just for the guy who wanted to skip the intros and just dive into the action, so, it is particularly weird when the badly-scripted story leaves me in doubt, then during gameplay the objectives tab doesnt help.

2 - The maps are, lets be frank, un-inspiring. They are smaller in scope, and way less complex, than the ones in DtS 1 and 2. They look much better, sure, being a more modern game. Actually some people say the game looks dated, but duh, it is old and I never cared too much about those things anyway (for those of you like me, the graphics would be no problem at all). But still, overall the map design is poor and without imagination, small, limited. That is the main sin.

3 - Some people complain about the weapons and how you shoot. It is the same thing as before more or less, you draw a weapon and you go into a 'fire' mode. But it is badly designed too. It sooms so much that your body covers half the screen. There is no recoil (viz, the mouse pointer going up after a shot, forcing you to reacquire the target). It feels unnatural.

4 - Speaking of gear, you can only pick from the same small and boring list of items, with redundant pistols which you have to UNLOCK with experience. But ... honestly the only one Worth buying is a silenced pistol, which damn it should have been available from the game start, isnt it? What damn soviet superspy would have to buy with reputation a special purpose pistol? Worse, it costs like 100 reputation points and it took me 3 missions to be able to gather that. Very bad design choice.

5 - The enemy AI is weird and, you know, square as hell. In the first mission I shot two guys on a 3rd floor room. The guys outside heard the shots, and when I came out, I shot them too. Then holstered and went down the stairs. New enemies appeared and just ran past me - I was wearing their uniform, right? Bad game design here too.

All in all, I saw the criticismo and thought, ah hell, why not buy this and have a bit more of what I like? But it wasnt Worth it. Dont buy this.
