Well, i want to try this game, but when i open the game, it stays all time en white screen :( what can i do?

Could anyone give a history for this game? How long has it been around for? "One of the longest running independent games" isn't very detailed. From Googling I've seen it's been around since at latest, 1999 (a Steam review mentioned 2000). As someone who played another 2D space hockey game through the first decade of the 21st century, I'm confused as to how this game eluded me for so long! I only found it because I just so happened to be on the Steam home page (which I am rarely) too......
