Abandonware.

A brief history of this product, for those finding it after so many years on the market; This is a fairly well-rounded but slightly clunky map maker for tabletop RPGs. It has a default library of textures, shapes, and map objects that isn't vast but is more than enough to get started with. It's very easy to add your own content to make maps with into it, and there's Workshop support, including many modules that have a ton of assets for you to use if you aren't as creatively inclined as to make your own (Such as I).

The last known update to this program by its developer was to create a 2.0 version, which mercifully is an option you can select by opting into it instead of the default when you boot it. Dungeon Painter Studio 2 is terrible, and the majority of users of DPS agree. DPS2 is so bad that people actively stopped providing workshop support for the 1.0 version. Since DPS2 dropped, there hasn't been a single update (we're reaching almost a half-decade since then at the time of writing).

So knowing that this is softcore abandonware, why do I still recommend it to this day? Because it's definitely the easiest program I've used for this, even if I don't have a skilled enough hand to make whatever I envision for a map. DPS2 is optional, as I said above. It's worth the one-time purchase if you need to make a lot of maps and need some reasonable amount of control over the design and layout (I've made dozens, possibly close to 100 maps in this program over the course of several years). It's worth learning to have a basic idea of tabletop map editors under your belt. Other products might not have the same setup, and there are others out there that absolutely have better product support, but this is still an excellent options for beginners.

Just don't select Dungeon Painter Studio 2. Trust me.
