I played this to completion and I have never had a game that felt like it was fighting me every step of the way.
From bugs, to the camera thinking Lara's booty is the better option than the ledge that is the only difference between living or dying,
And Lara herself getting caught on terrain, slight inclines out of the wall to ducking instead of rolling because movement was locked to the camera.

Also this game does not like you tabbing out for any reason and will crash.
I can forgive some of this due to being an older game running on a newer system, but being honest, I played this when it first came out and the thing never worked correctly.

My partner sat and listened to me go through so many emotions in such a short span of time due to this mess.
The latter levels in this game border on so broken and so unrelenting in its nonsense it became such a slog to finish.

I am sure there may be some fixes online one can find but as its own thing? I wouldn't recommend.
Here is a list of bugs I encountered in my playthrough:

> Every bat you kill will sperg out upon landing on the ground.
> Sperging dead bat knocked me off ledge
> Wolves sometimes get caught in terrain, sometimes become terrain
> First boss gets stuck on terrain
> First boss gets caught spinning in an endless loop
> First boss gets lost and becomes unbeatable being stuck in endless rage
> Secret Artifacts will randomly respawn
> Lara's hair clips through her body and terrain
> Lara's Body will clip through terrain and it just breaks her neck
> Grapple rings will randomly become untargetable and have to be manually locked onto
> Grapple hook will randomly hook on something through the wall
> Second bosses get caught on each other
> Second bosses shield becomes untargetable by hook and just remain stuck in stun forever
> Some traps activate but never actually work (Rome flame room was a mercy when this happened)
> Switches will just stay locked in the up position
> Mummies randomly teleport to you and break their own bodies trying to hit you
> Mummies clip through terrain, smack you then sperg out and die
> Rats vanish though the floor
> Medkits just stop working
> Lara randomly dies from putting her foot wrong on a platform
> Lara grazes a ledge and just spergs out, dying in the roof somehow

All in all, if you plan to play, do yourself a solid and find some fixes online first!

In short I might be biased because of nostalgia but, i would heavily recommend this game. There's pros and cons as in every games, this pc version has bugs, be it AI being broken sometimes, some jumps needing specific camera placement to work and the fighting mechanics are the weakpoint of this game especially if you have more than one enemy. But overall it's a great adventure game with good puzzles and platforming mechanics, exploration and i believe it aged pretty well. The game is dirt cheap for what it is. I'd advise to play the game in Easy as it simply change the enemies health pool and damage it deals with you and overall i can't recommend it enough.

For a longer version, Tomb Raider Anniversary is a remake of the first Tomb Raider from 1997 to celebrate the 10 years of the franchise. Having played both i can say with no hesitation this one is better in everyway. I got used to the gameplay so i cannot say if it's too clunky, i played it on keyboard, there's a lot of checkpoints BUT no autosaves meaning if you quit the game without saving you will lose progress but if you die, you will respawn to the last checkpoint (something on the screen will tell you when you get past one). A archaic mechanic is Healthpack to heal, no auto healing like in today's game, it comes from the '97 game but at the same time by the end of the game i had plenty to spare AND they usually place it at smart places, as guides towards the level's progression for example or before a fight.

Speaking of fighting, well ... As said before the AI can be broken and exploited, to limit this i locked the refresh rate at 120 Hz and enabled V-sync. Beside this, the combat is not a strong point of this game though for the time i suppose it's not a big weakness either. You have to lock enemies and shoot them enough to trigger their "rage". When in rage they'll sprint towards you and you'll have to dodge their attack with a roll and time a headshot to finish the enemy. It's not very complex and can become quite problematic if there's multiple enemies where you can trigger rage on an enemy but because there's an animation for said rage, it means another one can close the distance before you can time the headshot on the enraged enemy. With bad luck if you're stuck between them and a corner you can get stunlock. A solution that works mildly is the shotgun, it can stun enemies enough for you to stun another and basically shoot each one, one at a time, i say mildly as it isn't consistant. THIS however is a serious weakpoint of the game.

Well this is written last but the game is apparently the game is very difficult and ... Yes some jumps will not work if you don't do them properly (some are bugged some require precise inputs camera etc), it can be frustrating and compared to modern games, you can get stuck and my review makes it look like i played the game without any problem whatsoever. Just know that in late game the game becomes difficult, some sequences of acrobatics require strict timing and inputs especially starting in egypt and some jumps and platforming are ruthless and require you to simply not make a single mistake or allow breating room to take some time. There's an infamous platforming section where making a single mistake and by that i mean it has been timed and designed in a way that if you take too long or do not use the most optimal movement on an obstacle (pressing E to move faster on platforms) or if you do not jump as soon as possible you will die. I saw some comments about it and it's fair critisism. At the same time there's a lot of checkpoint and even if some aren't placed in the most optimal way it's not outrageous, i mean people praise Dark souls and Elden ring, what about previous GTA games with no checkpoints whatsoever during mission where if you die you have to travel from the hospital to the mission start point and do the WHOLE mission again. To me it's part of the game and it's not as bad as some people complain.

Anyway, story wise it's more explored than the original game and even if character aren't as developped as todays game they all have an edge, they're not unidimensional or generic, you can even unlock through the game Character Bios and get a bit of background. It's not very deep or up to today's standard but there are a lot of nuances here and there, some plot twists and interesting thematics, there is no major writing errors or plothole in the story and it holds itself together.

At the same time, it keeps the "it's a game from the 2000's" feel or vibe where stuff aren't very realistic for instance lara will go in short and tank top in the mountains or you will encounter 3 apex predator in the same level or that cooperate against you while there is no food for them to sustain. Personally it doesn't bother me too much but it's there.

What i like the most about this game is exploring and the gameplay that isn't shooting. This is the moment where you can take time to try and figure out how to solve a puzzle and move forward or how to get past traps or challenges and it's not something i can put to words. It's only something you'll understand once you play the game but beside a few jumps that are bugged (when i say bugged i mean mostly needing a precise jumping and camera angle or you will fail the jump usually clear after the second or third try, you cannot get softlocked) the game helps you learn the mechanic and the difficulty slowly increases as you change locations and progress intot the game. Overall i will say it has aged well and feels great to play. If you get stuck there's no shame in looking for the solution, for example in greece the climbable surface change a bit and the first time i couldn't figure out how to move forward, quick look at a playthrough and progressed through the game.

Well it leaves the aspect of replayability. The game doesn't have multiple ways to progress the main quest or there isn't added enemies or switched spawn, the puzzles and challenges are the same. So technically none at all. What this game has to increase play time beside difficulty are Time Trials, which is a difficulty in the replay level option and it simply gives a timer and you have to complete the level as fast as possible i did it as a challenge and i enjoyed it as it made me explore the game once more where i knew the fastest way and the answers to puzzles, at the same time with the skills you unlock through the game it feels good to breeze through levels.

I'd advise is to try and find every Artifacts and Relics, it unlocks outfits, arts, and cheats but mostly because it's another puzzle and they're usually well hidden and some require platforming to acquire that are challenging, entirely optional but a good addition.

More of a neat thing and not really shown but if you press shift or rolls multiple times in a row Lara will do acrobatics that look really cool and if you add a few Jump (with SPACE) she can add variations. Alternatively this is shown only once as a tip but jumping then rolling quickly after will make Lara perform a swan dive which is really really cool. In addition to being cool, it is the fastest way to move in this game as there's no sprinting,

Last thing is the Damocles gate, this is not a bug or rather it's unintuitive i was softlocked because of it. The logical answer is to block the door open BUT in reality you climb the stone bloc, wait for the door to open fully and jump on it at the last instant and IMMEDIATELY jump again. It will look impossible with a bad timing but trust me if you do it correctly Lara will jump higher
