Problem is the title. I was half way through (on windows 8.1) when the update to windows came out, now I can't finish. Anyone know a fix?

Ok, so I've been chugging through the sam and max season 1, and I've had the full screen issue for each one. I went through the motions, -sw, run once, edit prefs.prop, been there, done that, bought a selection of cheap curios at the gift shop to give to relatives as a substitute for actual love. However, episode 5 is giving me a unique issue. I am halfway through the game, at the bank puzzle. I got the password now. And every time I want to say "BOSCO" the game crashes and doesn't save. I can't go on with the game but I want to because the story isn't finished yet. Please, can someone help me?...

I can't seem to get the puzzle to progress. The arrows are supposed to direct the money flow, but they're not moving past the first top row. Any suggestions or work-arounds?
