I really enjoyed Death’s Door, and I’m incredibly impressed by the work accomplished by these two developers. The game delves into themes of death and mortality while maintaining a sense of lightheartedness.

One of the most striking aspects of the game is the use of visual and audio shifts to set the tone. The transition from your muted, monochrome office to vibrant landscapes feels both anticipatory for what's to come and purposeful. Each world is creatively designed to reflect the soul whose life you must claim. Similarly, the soundtrack evolves throughout your gameplay- from calm and ambient during exploration to intense, rhythmic compositions during combat. These shifts subtly guide how you approach each moment.

That said, the game isn’t without its flaws. While I generally enjoyed the combat and the unique challenges from enemies, I also found it frustrating and a bit flat at times. Some encounters felt more like tedious dances where I would have to constantly circle enemies for the chance to land a hit and not get hit back. But the smooth combat mechanics, music, and enemy combinations made it a bit more manageable. In addition, there were characters that I feel deserved more narration, such as Betty, the bard, and Death himself. And the "shiny things" are a nice touch, but they ultimately served as collectibles with bits of lore rather than elements that can be utilized later in the game (like combat abilities).

Still, I highly recommend Death’s Door to anyone looking for a game that is simple in structure but still challenging. It’s great for steamrolling through, but just as rewarding if you take your time and explore. There are plenty of hidden areas and things to find. It’s funny, charming, and quietly profound.

its pretty good

A lot of people would compare Death's Door to Tunic and says it feels "empty", and I would have to disagree. Death's Door is an amazing 3D platformer with soulslike combat and it excels in so many ways.
- The level design is clean, intentional, and offers clear visual guidance. Traversing and exploring feels great!! (If u always get lost in tunic and can't seem to remember the routes, IT WONT HAPPEN IN DEATHS DOOR'S DESIGN)
- The art and color palette SO NICE! Soundtrack is fire <3
- Combat feels smooth and each boss fight were unique, not a very hard game but it keeps it challenging and interesting!
- Encountered no bugs!
