Honestly, this game is super underrated amongst the Atelier games. I think it has one of the better cast of characters and its basic gameplay loop is fun and weirdly addictive. I had no issues with this port at all, no bugs or crashes on my end. Also Rorona till this day is still one of the best protagonists in the franchise.

This is a bit hard to give a simple not recommended or recommended to. I did enjoy playing this game, but I also think I had oddly low expectations of it going in as an Atelier fan.

If you've enjoyed other Atelier games, will you enjoy Rorona? Most likely.
Would I recommend it to anyone as their first Atelier game? Absolutely not.
The writing isn't terrible if you can get past the way the other characters bully Rorona for no clear reason, Rorona's general ineffectiveness at the start, and the way some of the characters act in, let's say, creepy ways.

I guess a bonus is that one playthrough isn't super long as it's designed to be played through multiple times, so if you want to one & done, it's not a terrible time sink even if you don't love it. My first playthrough was about 15 hours, and I do tend to play games in a more meandering way. That will frustrate some people though, as you will have to play multiple times if you want to see all the content. You will have to care enough to want to see all the content first, tbf, tho.

Another challenging thing about recommending any Atelier games is that I would strongly recommend a later game in the Arland subseries, but later games in subseries are often best enjoyed playing the first game. IDK, maybe buy an Arland subseries set if you're a dedicated Atelier fan or interested in a later game in this series. I can't recommend Atelier Rorona very much on its own, though.
