Actually, I've not been back to NMS for a few days as I'm working my way through the wiki. (Now, lets' see if I can insert a link here... Does that work? [nomanssky.gamepedia.com])
There's just so much in there that I a) didn't know or b) hadn't really got into. The freighter business for example, never appealed. And as for farming.... I'm more a nomadic type!
Tip-of-the-day. DO check in the log entries for current quests when you resume after a day or so. I've been trying to complete The Purge so as to get to a new universe. After five days skipping from system to system following the green path-line and visiting over fifty systems I happened to notice in the log that the quest needed resetting! Reset took me straight to the Final Portal. Arrgh!
So now in the Hilbert universe. Don't know whether my Void ship will continue to get upgrades now but first to repair all the damage the shift to the new universe caused. Exosuit and Multitool broken and I'm on a very radioactive planet. I'm gonna die unless I can get that fixed. Luckily the Void ship seems to be unaffected; don't know if that's because it's a Living ship.
Anyway, we press on....
#2. New update. Love the new quality; I didn't know that my PC could run the game in 'Ultra' mode but, if your kit can handle it, a huge improvement n realism. (I had to be a tad selective in what I bounced up to Ultra though. This is not a state-of-the-art GPU here, But enough worked to be still playable.)
#3. The Plan. I'm going for the Purge. A new universe beckons now that I know I can always teleport back to the original one. I had planned to try and make it to the centre but maybe I'll do that in the next universe. Dunno.
Yes - RDR2 is kinda like Skyrim - but much better :)
I have a screen-shot of both my ships together. How do I upload it here?
As for the idea of getting a new Void Egg and trying to see what other shape and colour options there are. That's died a death as you can't easily save before choosing a shape. But I think you can see most of the living ships parked in the Nexus each time you visit. (I still pop in there every so often to give away stuff I can't use now. Like space-ship augmentation; no good for a living ship.)

My Grand Plan to work through various models and colours has failed as I seem to have over-written the one manual save I needed. I really don't understand the thinking behind the Hello decision to just give us the two, Auto and Manual, saves. It must have been a conscious decision to do that as all other games have multiple saves. (I even tried the Skyrim F5/F9 saving shortcut in case it was a hidden feature, but nope!) All the more baffling as there seem to be five saves for each game in the saved-game folder. What's that all about?
Ever onwards....
There's a Guide. (No clue how to link but it's there in the game itself.) In the Guide it suggests a manual save just before kicking off the final step where you choose the, um, I think 'Host' for your final living ship. That means you can try various models before fixing on the final form and colour. This I'm going to do for the next day or so!
You get to keep your original 'S' tin ship so I can always summon that back if I get fed up with a blobby one. Getting this new chap upgraded may be a problem. The Guide says that you'll be offered enhancements when you pulse around; hasn't happened yet.
Finally. Now what? Never been to the centre of the galaxy so maybe that's my next goal.
I'll keep you posted. Maybe we can wake this forum up again? Have fun out there.
And to the Chat problem Again normally Pressing Enter should open the Chat window on the left side...
Anyway, with your help I now have a white blob to fly around in for a while.
Nope, text only here. I've rather given up on the Nexus. I went back there with the new ship just to see if I could get any interesting upgrades but nope. Interesting! Got showered with gifts! :) I think that the one thing you get if beat yourself up doing the Void Egg quest is kudos!
Just to clarify...
Do you mean Chat (Text) or Chat (Voice)?
I was refering to Text the whole time...
I tried that. A plaintive, 'Can anyone hear me?' resulted is a deafening silence so I assumed that it wasn't happening. I suppose I just happened to do it when there were either no English speakers in range or they were a bunch of introverted b*gg*rs present at the time.
I was rather hoping that the conversation could be directed at one person or a small group rather that being shouted out like some maniac.
Oh well, mute it is then. Not normally a problem as I prefer to play solo anyway and I was only swanning around the Nexus to get that Void Egg. But, if I ever come across you in-game, I'll make sure that I shout 'HI THERE DALOB' at the top of my voice for all to hear! :)
Twelve more hours and then I'll be back at that turning circle thingy with the Void Egg. That's where the save-game problem hit me before so I'll make sure to make a copy of the saved games folder before trying to repeat that part of the quest.
Thanks again for being here.
Step one:
Step two:
Step Four:
Step Seven:
Wait... no those were the Instructions for Falling down a Staircase...
There you go:
Step one: Press [Enter]
Step two: Type Message
Step three: Press [Enter]
Success!
Now, final test. How the devil do I get to reply to people who come up to me in the Nexus. One chap or chapesse gave me a huge load of Activated Cobalt for absolutely no reason at all, I wanted to say 'Thank you'. Stood there like a dumb lemon!
OK, if you're using a controller then that may not be a fair question. I'd ask in the Nexus but then.... I can't talk to anybody in the Nexus!
I feel like a broody hen at present. My Egg is coming along nicely! I 'spect you've worked this out but, being a tad slow, it's only just occurred to me. If you call the coordinates a.aa and b.bb then heading North increases a and heading West increases b. I was flailing around for days before I worked that out!
*HARDDRIVE*:\Users\*YOURUSERNAME*\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS
and then inside there is a folder with your saves
The Good News is that I'm carrying two of the things you need to progress. (No spoilers here, nothing to see!)
I wonder if the game will seize up at the same point. I think I'm going to have to find that save-game folder and make copies....
I'm motoring on with an earlier iteration; both the save-games are still there for the bust ship so really don't need to mess with them. Anyway, I can't find where the saved games are! :)
I did my first multi-player quest for the Nexus today. I feel like a hired grunt though as there's no way I can interact with the other members of the group. Until I find the magic key that opens a conversation with other players I think I'll just play solo from now on. (The sneaky people grabbed all the loot while I was fighting off the Sentinels. I feel a bit miffed by that!)
This place used to be buzzing a year ago. I guess folk have moved on to that underwater game? SubNautilon? Whatever. I still like NMS. Yep, ol' Stick-in-the-mud really should be my avatar name.
Be well,
Have you tried to get a new ship? Maybe something corrupted your Ship data?
And i dont think you need to excuse yourself, this is the First time in a Year that there was something here
I've given up on the problem. Both saved games have the bust flying syndrome; all other controls work like it says on the tin. Just cant fly. (Actually that's not true, I can take off but then I'm stuck, stationary, in he air.)
All drivers are up-to-date. I won't list the things I've tried but they include wandering off and summoning the ship and resetting all the controls to default using the options. No go, still.
Luckily I still had that previous game but I miss my monster ship with all it's S level bits and bobs and don't ask me about the missing slots in the Exosuit!
But re-building money and nanites will keep me busy anyway and, really, that's all part of the game's fun.
The one thing I would like Hello Games to do is to give us more chances to save. One autosave and one manual save seems a bit mean of 'em,
Sorry to have taken up so much of this thread. I promise to be quieter in future. :)
And Mabyon also try looking for new Hardware Drivers maybe they could fix the issure?
Another Idea would be to check the Files for Damages through steam
I'm still trying out ways that pop into my head but I'll post there later tonight if I'm still struggling.
What is so galling is that I was really motoring along with the Void Egg quests. Now have the daunting prospect of earning all that quicksilver and faffing around with the coordinate system just to get back to where I was. The Good Thing is that, if my memory holds up, I'll know to keep an eye out for the bits and bobs I'll need on the way!
Yep, no problem there. Further info: I had a saved game from months back, (saved after the last big upgrade when I wanted to start all over again from scratch). That save loaded fine and, apart from the controls being inverted, (strange!), gives me a ship that flies fine.
Tucked up in bed last night I suddenly thought about the keyboard mappings for the controls so, this morning, job # will be to try resetting all the options back to their default settings.
I'll report back....
Your Keyboard/Controller is fine right?
Re-installed NMS. Save games still there but so is the problem. Looks like it's both the auto and manual saves that have the problem.
Any ideas for a solution?
Heeeelp!
My NMS game has died! I can take off but can't move. Tried going back to both auto and manual saves, tried verifying local files, tried restarting the computer, nuffin'. I've uninstalled NMS and now have to wait an hour or so while it re-installs from Steam. I just hope that my saves have survived.
So that's me out of action, I dread the idea of starting all over again from scratch. That's 200 hours of my life I won't see again! Ho hum, always thought that 2021 would be an interesting year but this I didn't foresee at all.
See you guys in the Spring. Bye.
And a happy New Year to all you guys out there as well. We have just had a three-day lockdown here. Thank goodness for NMS; no chance of catching anything while dumbly socialising in there!
Void Egg progress 'progresses'. I was dismayed, at first, by the 20 hour wait between quests but actually it's fine. A chance to get inventory sorted out and a couple of missions to boost standing while you're waiting.
My, what fun we have! :)
As for forming a group: idk im usually more like a Singleplayer guy and dont really form groups
Happy new Year Everyone
Yes it's me again with yet another question.
I was approached by a nice person while faffing about in the Anomaly. He spoke to me in Cyrillic so I guess was maybe a Russian lad. I, being a total dimwit, just stood there.
My question. How do I talk to someone? I can invite someone to join a group but there doesn't seem to be a way to do what the Russian person did to me.
This game needs a user manual at least ten times the size of the guides. The catalogue is brilliant but the in-game guide doesn't do the business for me!
As for the Void Egg. All in hand. Just about to take on the third quest to wake the thing up. Thanks for all the help folks.
Start a new Anomaly in a different system and Nexus will offer a different quest. After two really easy ones I'm motoring ahead with my search for quicksilver.
Really quiet in the Anomaly tonight. I guess folk are doing real life things like celebrating the New Year. So, on that prompt....
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY. Gotta be better than 2020! No more NMS for me tonight, time to break out the very old port I've been saving. The snag is that we're in total purdah here in Portugal so we're all drinking on our own this year. Cheers!
OK, I'm up to 1.500 of the needed 3,100 to buy my pesky Void Egg having manage just one Nexus quest on my own, Yesterday I spent nine whole hours slouched over the computer, It seems evident that these quicksilver quests are only possible if you are prepared to go multi-player. If that's the case I will never get the required quicksilver as I am a real loner; in fact I don't know how the multi-player game works at all,
My new question. Is there a way to earn quicksilver without playing multi-player? It looks like all the single-player quests from the Nexus reward you with nanites or units.
The fact that I seemed to gather over 600 quicksilver without any Nexus jobs implies there's a different way of achieving my target,
Help needed here!
OK, Nexus missions it is then, <Sigh>
Thanks for the info though. Off to bounce around all those folk in the Anomaly.
Remembrance will have to wait now; far too busy gathering mercury.
As for the power business. Maybe I haven't put in enough batteries to keep the lights on over-night. Thanks for that tip as well.
Y'know, I'm really loving this game! I've had two gifts of RPG games over Christmas but can't get away from NMS to even try 'em out. Maybe once I've grown my egg....
