Spoilers ahead.

I really enjoyed the original game but always felt like the devs did not do a good job when it comes to progression.
I hoped that they improved on that in BZ but unfortunately, it got even worse.
Just when you get to the point where you upgraded your gear, vehicles and base, the game is over.
You don't even need the prawn suit at any point. I anticipated the need to farm a lot of materials later in the game, since that is the main purpose of the suit but that just never happened. There is no need for the suit at all.
I didn't even get to use the snowfox either because as soon as you discovered all the fragments to be able to build it, you basically explored the entire glacier area and don't need it anymore.
The thumper that's supposed to deter the iceworms? Never had to use it. I only ever saw one iceworm that never attacked me.
The entire phase of the game where you traverse the land feels devoid of any real gameplay justification.

It's very frustrating that a game with this much potential feels held back by such a lack of meaningful progression outside of the story missions.
I hope that for Subnautica 3, the team will focus more on extending the overall play time by actually requiring the player to use all the tools they have at their disposal at any given time. Make the periods between significant story progressions longer by having them gather more materials and explore dangerous and difficult to navigate areas, so they are forced to upgrade their gear and actually use it.

You could easily complete BZ without a proper base and just the seatruck without any modules. That is just bad design in my opinion.
