If you enjoyed C&C Tiberium Wars / Kane's Wrath then you'll love this. The campaigns are pretty good and are pretty similar to Tiberium Wars. The ends of both of the campaigns make it sound like they will add more missions to both at a future date which I really look forward to. They're also adding the third faction as playable at a later date and hopefully a campaign for it as well!

I'd say Ready or Not is better in nearly every way. Zero Hour has a couple extra neat features like the dog (but it dies super easily then you have to wait another 3 missions to use a new dog :C ) and the rappelling. Aside from that, the game is janky, gun customization sucks, immersion sucks and the map design is horrendous.

Please hire actual writers next time... The writing is a joke for the most part, with just a few exceptions...

I wanted to enjoy this game but I just really couldn't. I can usually overlook some major flaws in games but there's just too many in this game's case for me to enjoy it. I'll start with listing off things they did well.

Good:

Firstly, the character creator is undeniably good. There's so many customization options available to you to fine-tune the look of your character / pawn. Overall, the characters do look really good.

The combat system is fun and engaging in my opinion. I played an archer mostly with a little bit of thief and I appreciate that they both felt rather unique from one another and have plenty of skills at their disposal. My wife tried mage and didn't like it at all which I would have to agree seeing the gameplay of mage, I definitely see mage's uses but it's just not engaging or exciting to play. Nearly every spell you cast locks you in place for a good amount of time or at least slows you down dramatically. So mage is better suited for a pawn than a player in most cases I feel.

I've got praises and complaints about the pawn system. Praise wise, it's pretty cool that if a pawn has done a quest already with someone else, they can provide some help to you in the form of escorting you to the quest objective or even tell you what to do. Also some small things here or there are pretty cool too such as a pawns can catch you from falling to your death if they happen to be near where you'd land. Or after a fight you could even high five them in celebration. Or they can loot nearby things for you and interact with objects like dropping a ladder down for you. I found that they're also rather useful in combat as well. I also appreciate having full control of what vocation, skills and gear that your main pawn uses.

However, this is about all of the praising I can offer, now for the bad.

Bad:

The camera is atrociously bad. Probably one of the worst camera implementations I've seen in a game. The forced mouse acceleration/smoothing makes controlling the camera unnecessarily frustrating. Also the forced narrow FOV as well, which with nearly any action you take the FOV will change. You sprint, FOV changes. You attack, FOV changes. Walk into an interior or cave, FOV changes. Turn left in a building, FOV changes. Which all of this makes the game unplayable for those of us that are prone to motion sickness. My wife couldn't play more than 20 minutes. I'm less prone to motion sickness but it was affecting me as well.

The optimization... what optimization? Seeing benchmarks of people that have the best gpu on the market, a 4090, have 40-50 fps in the main town of the game?? And during normal gameplay it might go down to 60 fps??? Just are you kidding me? Terrible performance.

So bad side of pawns, they repeat the same things over and over. You only have to play for a few hours before you've heard most of the idle chatter already and you'll be hearing it over and over.

Questionable quest design, so ~5 hours in you'll be given your first "stealth" mission. Why do I have stealth in quotations? Because there are no stealth mechanics in the game. No crouching, no sneaking animation, no indicator on if you're being seen by anyone, no indicator saying you're currently trespassing so you should be "stealthing", you just walk around. That's it, yes the stealth missions aren't particularly complicated or robust that I've seen but it's immersion breaking and shows the quest design is sloppily done. I encountered 3 "stealth" missions pretty close to one another in the time I played, so I'm not sure if there's many more after those.

The story is mediocre, nothing earthshattering or attention grabbing.

The lip syncing on characters is really bad as well. People were making fun on Andromeda for this issue but it's much worse here I would say.

There's microtransactions as well. Which personally doesn't bother me too much since you can get any of those items in game but it also shows Capcom is trying to milk out even more money considering this is a $75 game...

Traveling is rather boring. Yes you can fast travel to a town but you have to use a consumable called a ferry stone which in my travels seemed to be rather uncommon to get. So there's a lot of running back and forth through the same paths you've already ran through half a dozen other times. There's also fast travel points you can place down I heard but from what I saw you don't get your first one until ~10-14 hours in and even then those might require ferry stones to use too. There's also oxcarts but those only allow you to travel between towns, which you won't even discover the second town for a good long while anyway.

The controls are too... console / controller focused on keyboard, why do I have to press some modifier key first to then allow me to use my item wheel or most of my abilities? Example: Ctrl + R to use lantern, Ctrl + Space Bar to use an ability.

So overall, I wish I refunded when I could. I figured Capcom surely would have improved in some of these aspects in the modern years but alas, not so much.

Honestly this game is such a breath of fresh air when it comes to the quality of a game upon release. Most games nowadays are bug-infested upon release but not this one.

Gameplay is a lot of fun, with the amount of classes in the game and the ability to multiclass and swap classes at any time just adds so much variety. Also there's a lot of buildcrafting potential with all the gear you can wear and the combo of classes.

The game is challenging at first until you get the hang of things but it isn't frustratingly difficult or super difficult for the sake of being super difficult.

It's a lot of fun going in blind and figuring things out as you go and gearing your character how you want (I didn't have much of a choice anyway given I played before release when the secret classes and weapons were still being discovered by players) but it was much more immersive this way.

Overall it's a great game. Story isn't amazing if that's your thing but it's still enjoyable enough.

My wife and I only managed to get multiplayer working once for about an hour and we were plagued with high ping issues despite being in the same house and network. We tried various methods to fix our other issues but we weren't able to manage to connect with one another again. We will both be requesting refunds for this game.

Got the game on sale for $3, honestly I would have been fine buying it at full price. The campaign is short but really good in my opinion. Frontier Defense (PvE Multiplayer mode) is pretty fun too, really have no complaints at all other than Titanfall 3 not being a thing yet.

I went into the game not knowing much of what to expect. The beginning was a bit slow and seemed like a traditional zombie survival game, nothing special. But then the story really picks up and turned into one of my favorite games of all time. Definitely the best zombie game out there if you care about narrative, the graphics and environment are outstanding. The music is fitting and good. Will definitely be replaying multiple times.

Sony please make a sequel!
