I've decided to change my review from positive to negative.

Simply put, the game in co-op is completely unplayable.

The game functions on a simple basis, once you get to nightmare - your auto-save (or save frequency) is lowered to AFTER death nights, and you cannot manually save. This is a terrible experience as the game crashes so much. If you progress for 10-15 minutes, you have a chance of being set back that exact amount of time, at which point you may as well start a new game instead of re-playing the one you just played from your previous save point. Imagine building 30 different buildings, building your army up, progressing upgrades ONLY for it to be completely demolished at the whim of RNG whether you MAYBE crash or don't (top tip, 80% of the time you WILL crash)

Until the developers let us up the auto-save or manual save frequency for the game, or fix the crashes, this review will stay negative. It was positive once I first started playing the game, because the set-back would only be 3 minutes at most, which is manageable, although not preferred.

Please fix the crashes, or at least apply a band-aid fix until the crashes are fixed. Nightmare COOP is unplayable, and that's my main reason for playing the game.

Would I recommend this game? Yes. Simply put, it's very addicting and fun. But I want to voice my opinion and warn you if you wish to push to the highest depth this game offers, especially with friends. Once you experience nightmare, Horrific is a thing of the past. But it's impossible to practice nightmare or progress it if your game CONSTANTLY CRASHES.

Recommended for casual enjoyment or singleplayer: STRONG YES.
Recommended for people who want to push the hardest difficulties: NO. STRAY AWAY UNTIL THE DEVS FIX THE GAME.

Coming from someone who got the game for "free" with my new PC.

I can't say if the game is worth buying but its definitely worth playing, its really good for those looking for a game to immerse themselves, coming from Fallout 4 it feels like an improvement in a lot of areas, but mostly the same.

Performance is horrendous, I am currently using a RTX 4090, ryzen 7 7800X3D, 32GB Ram 6000MHz, gaming on 4K resolution, game on high-ultra runs at 50 fps in New Atlantis, its really bad, and there is absolutely nothing impressive on screen, after installing DLSS mods it sits on a more acceptable 90 FPS.

Game features are locked behind skills, which I don't like, I would have rather enjoyed a basic variant of that feature which can be expanded on, for example stealth simply does not exist in the universe until you unlock that specific skill, weapon modding does not exist until you unlock it ( as in taking a mod out and putting it on another weapon )

Handcrafted locations are nice and have surprising amount of depth, not a lot of approaches to areas, I kinda wished there would be multiple approaches to doing a quest, for example when trying to steal a probe and you have to go to the UC, there is only one way in, no vents, no exterior access, just sprint to the door, press ctrl (assuming you have the stealth skill unlocked xdddd) and lockpick.

Almost all named NPCs have something interesting to say or a quest, unlike any Ubisoft game in the past 10 years. Game doesn't feel littered with activities that are automatically generated or NPCs, it feels quite ok from my pov

Quests can be fairily diverse, but the lack of map totally ruins the experience for some of them, there is already one available online but if it was so easy to add to a site it must be even easier to add ingame https://mapgenie.io/starfield, I don't need a marker every time, telling me where I need to go in games, but in this game it is MANDATORY else you get lost.

Companions are kindof stale, they have very little depth but they are overall nice and comment on the environment.

Planets, while some look nice, its mostly a watered down NMS experience, but its rather painful, no vehicles, stamina slows you down and the jetpack doesn't really make it faster, at least not the ones ive had.

Ships, while interesting is like a second character, lacks every concept of depth, its basically a stat brick that you cannot customize the interior outside of what the prefab comes with, every ship interaction is bad (outside of quests of course)

Combat is quite bland, easily the the worst part of the game next to the ship, stealth, at least the stealth I tried to pull off is non-existant, there are no takedowns or stealth kills, you can basically stealth with a shotgun for maximum effectiveness because knifes don't really do anything.

Skill system, I think its .. ok?I don't really like it overall, some skillpoints feel wasted just because im trying to get to the next level. I wish the game would track progress for skills even if you haven't unlocked it, it's really bad spending 30h then unlocking commerce and to have 0 progress done, easily fixable, hopefully official, if not a mod could fix it.

Power progression, i've noticed that the game throws at you the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ guns you can get, so as you level up, the game doesn't really get more advanced or more tactical, since that doesn't exist, its basically a race against enemy level, enemy level just seems to increase their healthpool by a value per level, and pumps up their damage, so if you really enjoy a starter weapon, tough luck, you're playing The Division now fam.

Also for some reason, if you enjoy automatic weapons like LMG's (like I do), this game don't do that, and on top of that it punishes you for doing something similar, automatic weapons for some reason do close to 90% less damage than semi automatics, I believe that is what makes the game a sponge fest but maybe its just a misbalance

Gameplay idea is nice but it doesnt work and its designed to waste your time

It takes around 20 mins and up to 1 hour to reach the stages in which different resources can be found which is horrible, its meant to encourage the building of starbases but the amount of timewasting just going back and forth in the beginning is crazy

Tech tree is convoluted and locked behind arbitrary crafting metrics ( IE in order to get to progress in the tech tree you have to sit and craft crafting benches (which take about 5 irl minutes to craft btw)) in order to get to the next blueprint, wasting resources and time at the same time.

Buying a ship is a nice alternative except the fact hat you need base materials in order to purchase a ship, essentially being that you're paying for the assembly of the ship and not the ship itself, this would be nice if any of the ships would use basic materials

I personally lost my ship 5 times during my playtrough and i didn't even get into combat, first of all the ship building in the game is not explained, having to watch hours of tutorials to even understand how to begin building, then to realise you don't even have the tech to craft the ship you designed (which takes forever btw) . At the point i was playing the Easy Build mode is a very nice and neat feature which is part of the tutorial which is just balantly broken to a point where the game memory leaks and splits your ship into 2 unrecoverable pieces.

This game has the weirdest ship damage system ive ever seen where 1 simple crack in your ship can coagulate and destroy the stability of the whole ship and also the fact that the durability on some of these blocks is laughably bad to a point where it feels like after every bump in your ship some part might detach as if the bolts are hot glue

To all the early access people i know i'm coping but the game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for now
Will return when its better because i like the concept

EDIT: game just got patched and the crafting time is 3x faster which is at least an acknowledgement that from the devs that some things are ridiculous, and a list of known bugs that are on their top priority, this is VERY good to see compared to other early access games in this genre, hopefully this behaviour is going to keep up as well as new content being pushed out

Honestly a good game, but only if you play at your own pace and for the story

The game has around 25 Hrs of gameplay, 15 of them being gathering resources 5 of them being trips into space and 5 of them being story driven and completing objectives

I highly recommend cheating once in a while when you feel like you're doing chores in chapter 2, game drags for hours just scavenging for resources and i personally wasn't into spending 2 hours wasting my oxygen searching for aluminum. This isn't the case for later chapters as they are more story driven

I highly don't recommend wasting a lot of time in chapter 2 outside of scavanging for toys, notes and exploring because everything you build will be gone as you proceed to later chapters

The story is is fine and the suit narrator is the only thing that kept me playing the game, exploring doing achievements, etc and personally i had a great time listening to all the jokes and the plot

Edit: after 600 hours in the game and a few updates i can say the game is going in the wrong direction, the zerg issue has settled itself to some degree as most people quit the game, but thats not reason to make u think you can accomplish anything on your own, even with a small group certain tasks will take forever.
This is not a game u can play casually or when you feel like it, doing anything in this game will take 4-5 hours at the very least to make anything productive. Certain recipes like iron take 100 minutes to craft, ceramic shards take 25 and tar takes 60 minutes to produce which is an insane waiting time. And because the resources mentioned early are quite annoying to gather back you will sit there or very close not letting you do other tasks because the game is so griefer friendly.
It is very easy for people to kill your walker and even easier to destroy your base, so nothing in this game is safe besides ur lobbied walker which can spawn next to enemy walkers when you spawn into the map
In the game at the moment everything is tedious to build and the game is so griefer friendly people can just spawn naked on your map and run around with a beatstick and keep your walker in combat permanently while you can't pack your base wasting alot of your time just chasing children around with an extreme amount of free time

old review(still relevant) :
This game will only be fun for the first 10 hours and until you have to make tablets, every fabricator is camped and every clan in this game will kill on sight regardless of how much stuff you have this game is impossible for solo players so don't even bother, half of the fun stuff is locked so only zerg clans will be able to research them, if you end up buying this game good luck enjoying it when every clan will try to make a slave out of u and u will only be powering their progression while u get the short end of the stick

Everything is rng, you can lose all 3 heroes on turn 1 and get five 6 mana cards in ur hand. There is no redraw and you have no impact on turn 1.
There is no real balance between heroes, there are good heroes and there are trash ones. The same goes for the cards
Constructed costs money to play viably and drafts are entirely dependent on luck, if the enemy draws 3 lunas in draft you just lose the game and none of your choices mattered.
In order to get more cards you either have to buy card packs or pay a fee to enter an arena type system which is Constructed ( which requires you to have cards already bought ), phantom draft which costs around 1$ a ticket, and keepers draft which is a whopping 15$, which is a phantom draft where you get to keep the cards you draw.
I can easily say keepers draft is the easiest to win because people puddle for expensive cards which are often spread around 4 colours, but even then there is no reliable way to get cards outside of continously spending money.
Don't bother buying, you can buy the game and sell every card you get in order to patch that dent you just made in your wallet, but what you're left up with is a pile of ♥♥♥♥ that will anger you, just don't
