Puzzle games are my favourite single-player genre, and this now comfortably sits alongside my favourites The Witness and The Talos Principle 2. I’ve only just rolled the credits, and I have notes and screenshots of so many alternative routes, extras, and clues that I’ll be going back to later. It feels as though there’s easily 50+ hours of content if you want to go achievement or lore hunting.

While TP2 and The Witness are a barrage of puzzles with secrets and story layered on top, Blue Prince is more about exploration while jotting down or taking screenshots of notes, books, and anything else that seems like it might be important. To give an idea of this without spoiling anything: I finished on day 48, and the route I took was enabled by some screenshots I’d taken in the mid 20s, combined with a previous day spent in the later areas of the game.

My main gripe was with the room drafting system "killing" a run. Of the two ways a day can end, running out of steps feels much fairer rather than being forced to draft a dead end on your last available path.

While possibly controversial, an easier mode that makes the draft system and resources more forgiving would reduce frustration, while keeping the rewarding moments of discovery and piecing together clues which are the most satisfying parts of the game.

The moment I found that this game has scratch cards I was hooked.

It's a walking sim so you gotta be ready to walk around for a couple of hours. Story is pretty good but the highlight of this game is the music and visuals.

Server struggles aside, the game is so much fun. It's basically 3rd person Halo firefight mode on steroids.

More Risk of Rain 2 = more fun.

Void items are a fun twist on existing items giving more options in runs.
The new survivors fit 2 play styles which didn't exist before.

My only non positive would be that you unlock every dlc item directly off of purchasing it, which makes sense, but I really enjoyed achievement hunting to unlock items from the vanilla game, as it gave more purpose to each run you go for. So in terms of unlockable achievements and things to permanently get you've probably got about 5-10 hours of stuff to aim for before you start setting individual goals.

Fun to move around in, light puzzle solving and very nice art. Worth getting if you're into ABZU, Firewatch etc.
