As a long time fan of the original Mafia I cannot recommend this game. It feels like an easy cash grab by releasing a game that would generate a lot of sales by nostalgia alone.

Even though my playtime in Mafia:DE has been fairly short (45 minutes) it has been sufficient for me to be turned off it.

While the graphics are great, the rest of the game leaves wanting. To sum up what has turned me off so shortly after starting up the game:

-Tommy is significantly less sympathetic and feels like he is just snarky. Too much effort is going into trying to make him a bad ass, whether it is actively talking back against two unknown mobsters that just hopped into your car while in a gunfight, single handidly wanting to destroy the car-park of a mafia Don without any sort of hesitation or anxiousness, or just clearing a jump over a bridge in the first mission where the other mobsters are quite suprised by this, but Tommy being completely unfased.

-This game weighs heavily into game mechanics that are trendy now, such as jumping and vaulting mechanics all over the place (but ofc. only vaulting where there is a nice little sheet neatly spread over the wall where you are able to).

-Tommy is no longer a taxi driver that happened to turn mobster. He is now also an olympic trackstar that can run and jump over all sorts of stuff, but also apparently a trained unarmed martial artist, that can sneak up one someone and take someone down with his bare hands.

-Animations are quite off. When throwing molotovs or quickly scaling boxes, the animations are choppy and feel very rushed.

-Within the 1st mission when trying to escape there are various 'short cuts' you can take to get rid of your pursuiters. These are nothing more than cutscenes that activate on location. Furthermore, are they all the same: road works, that force tommy to slalom around some workmaterial, doing this successfully, but the pursuiter failing and smashing into the road works.

-Some minor things are missing (such as turning signals). While this is not that impactful, for me it shows that this is not really a labour of love or passion.

All together this feels like a game that you loved, being chopped up into something that would be barely passable as a memorable game. Instead of staying true to the truly fantastic original, they have made this into a generic game.

The first few hours of this game are quite enjoyable.
You are living with your mom, making video's for youtube and are forced to study every now and then.

However as soon as you move out to live with your mom the tempo of this game drastically increases. You are in a constant chase to bring out video's, upgrade your system and head out to work because you dont make enough money with your videos to pay rent.

The speed of this game makes it hard to relax and the videos you bring out lack any sence of acomplishment.
In addition to this you have an anoying social system that keeps requesting you to go out to parties and films that are ulitmately quite boring.

Making friends feels somewhat useless and is done by a repetition of the "TALK <SUBJECT>" button. So imagine talking about money 100X makes someone your soul mate.

All in all, fun for about an hour or 2, ultimately quite frustrating.

a fun and quirky game for casual times.

You probably wont play this full time while sat at your pc, but it's great for those times on a laptop while waiting. (IE. during travel)

if you can pick this game up for anywhere around €10/15,- try it out. If you're like me and have an hour or 2/3 to spend a week doing nothing but just sitting, this is the game for you!

An okay game. The music in the game is great and it has some funny jokes.
It's not bad, but not something to write home about.

I played it by controller which greatly increased my satisfaction with this game. I wouldnt recommend this as much for pure mouse/keyboard.

In the end you'll play to finish the game (without minding too much) but once you're done you'll be fine with it.

If you can get this for cheap €5/10,- pick it up and try it out.

This is a golden oldy!
In my oppinion one of the best GTA games. it's not the biggest, nor the best looking, but the story and setting is by far the best in the GTA series.

In this game getting a 100% by looking for collectibles, secret jumps, etc. is not a drag but an opportunity to experience all the little quirks and jokes in the game.

If you find this game for about €15,- you should definitely buy it! while some people think it's somewhat pricey for a game this old, the time you spend on it and the amusement you get from it is more than worth it!

The downside is that there are a few bugs in the game when playing on windows 7 and higher. These bugs are rarely game breaking and often solvable by (ie. turning on the frame limiter- causes a bit lower FPS but in fairness it bring you to the fps the game was ment to play in)

Final comments: A great game, somewhat old but 100% worth of your time if you're a fan of the 1960-70's and open world games.

Great game! campaign makes you want to keep playing and believe me, you will!

I played this with a controller, and in my oppinion its the best way to play these kind of hack and slashers(but to each their own).

For the real hack n slash pro's this game has replayability with several difficulty levels that provides the chance to develope the ultimate skills to play this game.

The game features several upgradable skills and collectibles for those who love going for those.

if you can get this game for anywhere around €25/30,-you should buy it!

One of my favorites! an absolute reccomendation!
Think about a hi-tech/space version of dungeon keeper, a lil less combat and more management.

It's a bit dated but still a great game! gameplay itself is really good! ofcourse with a somewhat out dated game the graphics could be beteter but it's not something you get anoyed by while playing.

Only wish (apart from the graphics) more campaign missions! this is one of those games where you want more missions! but there are some community compiled missions out there.

if you get the chance to try this, definitely get it!
When on sale for around €10/15,- it's money well... VERY well spent!
