This could one day become an incredible game, but on release this is truly abysmal.

Performance issues so bad even powerful computers have difficulty reaching 60fps (this is the easiest issue to fix, assuming it's an optimization issue. also only one of many issues)

Awkwardly separated open-world exploration and missions for co-op. In past games you can go on an expedition with friends exactly as easily as a hunt, but now it requires you to go through several menus and loading screen to switch between the two modes. Which means you'll need to go through all that again to go back to normal missions.

Multiplayer story progression is the worst in the series, somehow being worse than World with nonstop unskippable walking segments, partially unskippable dialogue, lots of long dialogue sequences, and an only slightly improved joining system AFTER you've dealt with all that to play tthe actual hunt with a friend, only to repeat the entire process once you're on to the next mission.

NPCs have far too much wait time, cutscenes, additional menus, and bloat on every menu from upgrading weapons to trading items. What used to be a snappy system now requires often 5x more time to engage in the basic gameplay loop of crafting and prepping for hunts.

There are also a thousand other smaller issues too numerous to list that make this one of the most frustrating games in the series to play, which is unfortunate because the core gameplay is extremely solid and rewarding.

TL;DR unless you have a top-tier PC and play alone, play Rise, GU, or some other game while you wait for this to be fixed.

just bad practice. let us customize our character as many times as we want. hopefully modders will step up to make this free, like it should always be

Superb Sekiro-like so good it makes me wish the developer makes a full game out of this

As a long time souls veteran, this is a great souls-like that does more things right than most other attempts in the genre, and does more things right than it does wrong. But it still does get things wrong.

With how the game is balanced right now, neither blocks/parries nor dodges feel correctly tuned. Parry windows are far too small for how inconsistent many of the late game boss telegraphs are, and dodges feel useless in the face of extremely long multi-hit combos that will hit you regardless of timing and direction.

The story is perfectly serviceable with interesting enough settings and characters, but largely irrelevant to the broader experience. Many characters that become important seem to just pop up from out of nowhere and then disappear from the story just as quick, making it hard to get engaged in a story that just throws around nouns and disregards them just as quickly.

Much of the game's important information is not correctly relayed to the player. Many important upgrades have very poorly defined/translated descriptions that make them seem worse than your other options, and weapons can have severe damage penalties if combined in the wrong way, which will not be reflected when you look at your weapon's damage number.

Overall a solid game and I'd like to see another from these developers, but I hope they refine their formula next time.

THE best Monster Hunter, hands down. Best combat, best QOL changes, best pacing, best animations, best aesthetics, best customization, best menus, best everything.
The only bad thing about it is how you can't escape the World heads complaining that it doesn't take 20 times longer to do everything like in World.

Early Access Review
One of the best free-to-play shooters I've ever played and the best one on the market right now. Every update fixes a dozen things I had a slight problem with and a hundred more I didn't even notice or realize I wanted changed until after the fact. I can only hope the game stays as good in the future

This DLC is a fantastic expansion on almost every mechanic Rise already improved. Better eating, better pets, better monsters. It's exactly what an expansion should be.

Also, 100% of the negative reviews I've seen are from people that don't know how to uninstall mods. You can't blame the game for updating, that's on you.

Super repetitive gameplay with a focus on RNG. The videogame equivalent of bashing your head against a wall. Art is cute, but that's about the only compliment I can muster.
