Easily in the top 3 best Boomer Shooter AND the best 40K game out there, and I say that as a boomer who has been playing shooters since they were invented

Takes a little bit to get rolling, and the roguelike element doesn't respect your time, but once you get past that, it is great

You know that feeling when you know exactly what to do to beat a fight, but the game decides to double-hit and kill you, or just not have the enemy have their vulnerability window after all, so you get killed when you think it is finally your turn to hit? Then when you have done the same fight over and over and over and over, you don't even feel good about winning? That's this game.

Does what it wants well and echoes a simpler time with no fancy bells or whistles. Done in about the same time it takes to write a review if you aren't terrible at games.

Metroidvania with stands. What is there not to like?

I originally recommended this game, but now that I have gotten further in, and see the barren maps and experienced the unfinished feel, it's clear that this needs more time in the oven before it can be consumed. Playing it in the state it is at the time of this review is doing a disservice to the other assets that initially captivated me, like the art and original take on the rock-scissors-paper playstyle of the fire emblem franchise.

I won't refund it, because I think it is going to be something great down the road, and I have faith that the devs will come through.

Excellent metroidvania that has a host of very interesting and rewarding gameplay mechanics, providing surprising depth to the combat and exploration, and all of them well grounded within the canon of the setting, and never feeling terribly out of character.

Fairly short game, can be beaten within about 4 hours, even shorter once you know where to go. But I do not count this as a negative, as most games in this genre tends to have a fair bit of back-tracking bloat just to lengthen the playtime. At no point did I feel like I was doing busywork and making massive detours, while also feeling that exploration was quite rewarding.

Fire Emblem, but actually challenging and with good character writing

A licensed 40K game that is not a crappy cash grab

Also when it comes to being true to the lore, as it appropriately will run on a toaster

Like Animal Crossing, except with more content, superior multiplayer and a quarter of the price
