I love this game. It was and remains a unique take on the RTS genre, and it has held up well. You're constantly engaged, making interesting decisions and balancing your economy. The emotional investment in your colony is real.

It's not without its deficiencies. Being able to watch replays of your game is sorely missing. For now if you want to relive it then Steam's video recording is the go. There's no multiplayer, and I'd really like to play it with friends sometimes. Groups of units can get stuck when walking through narrow gaps which can cause problems when you need them somewhere fast. The infected mutants are also unbalanced; their hearing is just too good. These are my biggest gripes. For what it is, it's near perfect. Kudos to the devs.

In the early to mid game there's a lot of discovery: finding new effects, ingredients, and a new map. It's cute and fun. Over the course of the game you will have various issues to solve as you try to advance. Using the salts to satisfy the picky customers with their limitations on the number of ingredients, and figuring out which recipes are worth saving. The potion book becomes quite full by the end and you need some organisation.

The crafting mechanic is clever and unique, but it is a literal grind. It would help to have a 'fully grind this ingredient' key. But even the tedious late game grind is a kind of optimisation challenge. I found myself ignoring the special requests of customers, saving commonly desired combinations, not haggling, and bulk buying the low-priced ingredients to gain popularity as fast as possible.

There are some aspects that are obviously not fleshed out yet, such as the garden and skill system. Figuring out which effects are compatible is rather confusing and frustrating. The customer orders for vague 'additional effects' are particularly unwelcome.

Overall it's a gem that could use some polish.

It's a neat, minimalist shooter, perfect for a break from work for a few minutes. It's fast paced, hectic and addictive. Could be developed into something bigger, but I'm loving it as it is. Frames appear to be dropped when there's a lot of action. Definitely recommended.

It's a simple and relaxing game to pass a few minutes. Definitely worth picking up.
