Early Access Review
For this review I waited just under 2 months since it's early access release to give both the game time to settle and for myself to rack up 100+ hours. This way I could give a more fair and honest review of On Dark Terms.

TLDR - For a game that has been created by one Dev it's on the right track. Obviously it's not perfect and there are bugs, but he has worked diligently to provide us quick fixes to them as well as providing us with new content. I've never encountered a Dev more passionate about their creation and willing to listen to his community's feedback to constantly improve upon the game. I have very high hopes for this and will continue to watch and play as this develops.

When I first saw the trailer for On Dark Terms it looked really good, but I was afraid that it would be like so many other games as of late and not be true to the game. I can't tell you just how happy I am that it was not the case. Now it's a bit different (and better) through some QOL updates, but at first it was spot on. Also, yes, you can play as a cat, 10/10 great game enough said lol. On a more serious note, let me get to the actual review.

There are 7 dungeons to choose from and each has it's own unique design. The dungeons are the Train Station, Office, Museum, Library, Mansion, Mall, and Arcade. You aren't forced to go to all the dungeons, but I do recommend going to them all and seeing everything they have to offer. In all of these dungeons you can choose between 1 of 3 base entity types to go up against which are Demon, Ghost, and Witch. From there you'll have to figure out one of the four sub types of that entity that applies. Each sub type has a unique style of hunt that I won't spoil.

This is a true open world game without a single loading screen set in a post apocalyptic world. There are several really pretty and interesting assets. Definitely not just obsessed with the giant pretty glowing mushrooms lol. While out in the world gathering ingredients to craft consumables to help you on your next hunt, take some time to explore and find all the secret nooks and crannies. Who knows, you may even find some hints as to what happened or other various world lore...

The game offers several customization features that I'm sure will be expanded upon in more as it develops. As of now we can customize our character, cat, apartment, cat's room, and equipment. For your character you can customize your body, skin tone, hairstyle, hair color, tops, bottoms, shoes, and backpacks. For your cat you can give them a custom name as well as choose between different body shapes and fur patterns. Your apartment has several spots that you can place different wall or floor decorations. The cat's room has spaces that you can fill with any combination of beds, feeder, cat trees, toys, and scratching posts. You can also choose to add a sticker to all of your equipment to spice them up.

Now, it's not a completely perfect game as of now, but for this game to have been made by a single developer it's very good in my opinion. What's most impressive to me is how active and caring the developer is towards his community. He is extremely active in streams of all sizes, very responsive in the official Discord always giving answers to everyone's questions, and works around the clock to provide us updates and bug fixes quickly. Hell, I've counted at least 16 updates of varying sizes and the game has been out for less than 2 months! Dimensionless Games is very passionate about On Dark Terms and I can see it with all the time and effort put into it that as long as the game stays supported by the community it'll turn into a major staple in the horror genre.

If you've gotten this far into the review here's a fun fact, On Dark Terms is based off a book that the dev is writing, and I'd love to be able to get my hands on a copy when it's finished one day.
