Brothers, A way out, It takes two. Those are great games, and because of this legacy it's sad for me to see Split fiction being such a disappointment.
Normally games are good if they have good gameplay, a good story, or both. Split fiction has neither.

The Story is extremely generic, even the characters say that.
The characters themselves don't have personalities.
The dialogs are basic a forced interaction between one person who wants to focus on the issue and another who wants to talk about things unrelated to the problem in the most unsuitable times.

The gameplay is laughable. For comparison, in It takes two there were a lot of different mechanics and environments, all of which were able to be explored freely.
You are a novice and want to jump on each platform? Go ahead.
You are experienced and want to jump and dash directly to the end ignoring some of the platforms? Be my guest!

In Split fiction on the other hand the game plays itself.
You have a series of poles to jump, but you only need to push the jump button, the game does everything else to you so you don't miss the jump, you can't skip to go faster, because the game doesn't allow you to.
There is no option to turn off this assistance.

Besides jumping you can also slide, oh and you will slide. There are slides in every corner of the game.

Similar to A way out and It takes two, Split fiction has a lot of huge and beautiful environments. But different from its predecessors, those environments don't have life. There is nothing to see or interact with, nothing to have fun or waste your time with your friend. They are just there, lifeless environments.

Throughout the game, you will have different scenarios, where the powers will be similar to the ones you have in the other scenarios and stories.
In most cases, the player on the left will have mobility skills, like diving and gliding and the player on the right will be able to climb some walls and smash things. It will be the same thing with different "skins".

To give credit where it's due.
Instead of mini-games, Split Fiction has "substories", a side quest to "be fun".
Of all of those, only 2 were memorable to me.
1) Where you turn into pigs, the powers and the environment are fun. The end was unexpected. Fun and short like a minigame.
2) One world of wizards where you need to find cat spirits, this one has a little village with some shops, where you can test and play with the products in those shops, this was a livid environment where me and my friend spent some time on.

The name of the game, "Split fiction" only shines in the end boss battle, where you have a lot of different mechanics and screen gimmicks that REALLY incorporate the name "Split fiction".
This leaves the impression that the end battle was made first, thus the name, and the rest of the game was just to fill up gametime for it to be longer.
The game could be a masterpiece if the end game mechanics were used along the rest of the game.

Those few good things are not nearly enough to compensate for the frustration from the whole game.
It was a dull and bad experience, a waste of time.

Bem relaxante.
