Doesn't run great, especially with an older CPU. PTW DLC is a ♥♥♥♥ move, do not buy that DLC, if you want the stuff it gives, use mods. (Fling Trainer works great for rift crystals, for everything else try the mod "Crazy's Shop"). I can't recommend a game without being honest about how poorly this runs by 2024 standards, and speaking out against the skeeve PTW DLC in a single player game, especially turning fast travel into a paid feature with how slow this game can be to get around the world at times. I *strongly* recommend Crazy Shop so you can get port crystals and ferrystones in early game, it drastically improves the flow of the experience.

Outside of all of that, the game itself is phenomenal, which is why I still recommend it even with everything going on surrounding the release, but Its a much less ideal experience for console players so steam folk should take advantage of their options rather than letting capcom try to scalp you for basic QoL items.

Cool game, I was lucky enough not to be one of the folks hit with the boot up issue at launch that has been listed in known issues and is (hopefully) already fixed by the time anyone sees this review. The game itself is fantastic so long as you understand what you're buying. This is a hub/quest based coop RPG, similiar to something like monster hunter, but closer in scale to the old psp games so not as broad and deep as modern MH can sometimes be with features, modes and story content. It has a 5-8 hour long single player only campaign that is required to unlock most of the games content and systems, so if you have friends you wanna play with, or want to go directly into coop with randos, do be aware of the moderate attunement phase before the game actually becomes a full coop experience, as all story content is solo only and you only unlock coop enabled quests a few at a time after each episode and most core grinds/systems don't become available until near the end of the story mode.

Campaign content works a bit differently from the coop/quest format, and is broken into, depending on how you count it, between 10 and 12 isolated "Scenarios" that are about 30-45 minutes a piece that either have to be played in one shot or will feature slightly larger maps than regular quests with a save stone you can use to zone in and out of them back to the regular town hub without starting over, while others are just one continuous set piece. They are short and straightforward but the plot and action pieces are really good and due to the shorter length, the campaign has very little if any downtime, everything moves at a blistering pace and then its over.

While depending on your budget, I could maybe recommend the games price for its campaign alone, the short length and massive backloading of most systems/features until after the story is completed makes that a hard sell. Overall I would say buy the game if you know you want to dive into dozens of hours of coop quest combat and grinding, since you will essentially spend the first few sessions doing story, and then the rest of your time with the game farming quests with other players, so the experience is split into two very different kinds of games and the second one is ten times larger, if you can cope with the dissonance of that, you will end up with a visually beautiful game with satisfying combat, simple but addicting power growth systems, and a large roster (19 at launch) of playable characters that you can treat as an RPG coop meat grinder for as long as that loop satisfies you.

Is good. Narrative wise this game is super loyal to its genre so if you don't enjoy watching people talk for 20 minutes about ancient martial arts techniques the story/quest plots may feel a bit impenetrable, but it feels wrong to criticize a games writing for being exactly what it advertised itself to be :P.

Gameplay wise everything is just super tight. I would have liked the ability to customize the behavior of party AI in real time mode more considering how many abilities a character can have slotted at once, and the crafting system, namely finding recipes/blueprints does feel a little poorly conveyed and hard to get a foothold on, but overall the moment to moment gameplay is tight quick and constantly rewarding.
