I played entirely though this game with a mouse, so trust me when I say to make sure you have a controller. The KB&M controls aren't intuitive and the difficulty will increase faster than you can get used to the controls until it all "clicks".

KB&M Pro Tip 1: Rely on camera controls as little as possible. Use lock-on and WASD whenever possible and don't move the mouse unless you absolutely have to e.g. Blade Mode and traversing certain obstacles.
KB&M Pro Tip 2: Only hold WASD when moving between areas. Spam a few enemies with WASD and your attack buttons/keys and you'll quickly understand why.

Once it all clicks this game is a massive rush, even with keyboard and mouse.

Originally envisioned as a sourcemod that'd let you put Alyx in lewd positions, Garry's Mod has grown to be much more than just a sandbox; with the core of most of its playerbase in various multiplayer gamemodes that players themselves have created. Ranging from the plethora of different non-serious roleplaying gamemodes to the classic gamemode, sandbox and to fast games like TTT, Deathrun, and zombie survival. You'd already be getting your money's worth by just buying it to play for one gamemode as each one generally has significant replay value.

Take note that there is no officially run gmod servers and most if not all are run by private individuals who have free reign over what they want to do with their server. If they want to, they can turn DarkRP into DonateRP, Trouble in Terrorist Town into Trouble in RDM Town, Zombie Survival into Unbalanced Survival. The point is, although you'll be spending a lot of time playing, you'll also be spending a lot of time finding a server that just doesn't suck. If you find a server that you just fit into, the game just becomes more fun and worth your money.

In short, although most of the playerbase may not be that great, there are a few really good servers floating around. I would most definitely recommend this game. I've already played way more hours than anyone should and I still find it fun.
