Today I play the dissenting voice, though I do not like to.
I do not enjoy this game, and it hasn't shown anything to make me believe that further gameplay would improve the experience.

Love the concept; it's undeniably fantastic. Graphics are middle of the road. Voice acting seems good, actually.

I could not enjoy the gameplay. I've played 4 or 5 missions into the campaign, and have spent over half of my time in mission slowly watching enemy ship health slowly degrade. It's been basically disabled, and even though enemy destruction is often not required for mission completion, it is strongly incentivized for progression. So I stand, and wait for the number to drop. Missions so far have also failed to present any sort of challenge. And although you can expect early missions to be easier, I have faced absolutely no challenge.
There are modes other than the campaign, but the campaign should be the most controlled user experience out of any mode, so I doubt these problems are isolated here.

If it gets more fun later in the campaign, it should have started me there. If it gets more interesting when I have to control of a fleet larger than 1 or 2, it should have started me with that. But it didn't.

Issues of polish also are present. Some menus are not being translated into English. Clunky ship movement easily does unintended movements and does not allow control of ship orientation while moving, which is important for effectively using your shields. It took a random tip to tell me the meaning behind damage types, because it is not listed in the shipyard or in the tutorial.

It must be said that the price is low, even when not on sale. I would advise that you look up gameplay online, and, especially if you are looking for a multiplayer experience, you may decide that you still want this game. Many do seem to.

TL;DR:
I stood around with a TV on my face for a couple hours, and got to play a game for much less than that amount of time.

Early Access Review
Hey, this is a review based on early impressions. I do feel confident enough to make a positive/negative review, but keep that in mind.

This game gets of lot of things right, and was clearly made with a lot of care. I bought this game at the same time as another game, and although I want to play the other game, every time I put on my headset I'm drawn to play this instead.

  • The game looks great, and is quite immersive.

  • As a relative newcomer to rougelikes and dungeon crawlers, it did not take much effort to understand the basics, and the stat system is simple enough to avoid being overwhelming.

  • Combat with the sword feels good, but the developer created something magnificent with the throwing knife. It feels good to throw, and is strong enough so that you don't feel punished for not wanting to use your sword much.

  • The sound effects are good, and so far I've liked all of them, except for the zombie. Something about it hits me wrong, but I don't hate it, and it doesn't bother me much.

  • So far, every floor has felt unique and interesting. You stay on each for a decent amount of time, but they are short enough to not overstay their welcome.

  • It must be said that I haven't found myself making many meaningful decisions while playing, which happens to be my largest grievance. I don't see that changing later in my playthroughs, either. An anvil in the lobby area seems to potentially promise more options for progression or variety in runs, but I will have to wait to see what updates will bring.

I've played 2.4 hours at the time of this review, and have made it down to the 4th layer of the dungeon. I plan on returning to this review to add and update thoughts.

The automaton infiltrator splinter group S.O.N.Y. has been eliminated across Super Earth, and their remaining assets have been pushed out of the Sol system by a combined Helldiver and SEAF action.

Our way of life has been preserved.

I don't like horror games normally, but this one balances dread and fright against comedy so well that I don't even mind. Get in the right lobby, and it's hilarious. $10 feels like a steal.

Before I found this game, if you would have told me that I would seriously enjoy a fighting game, I don't think I would have believed you.

This game's unique, almost turn-based, method of inputting your moves both alleviates the rapid reaction times other fighting games may require of you, and grants you the time and opportunity to carefully plan all of your moves.
The game often feels like a battle of wits, where each player watches for, and learns, his opponents favorite moves and tricks. The game's apparently slow pace never prevents baiting an opponent from feeling exhilarating, and sometimes nervewracking. Some matches progress evenly, with each player taking chunks off of the other's health, but others have one player dominating the first half, only to be overthrown by his foe in the last half.

I haven't even mentioned the modding and workshop community yet. It's impressive, but others will surely be in a better spot to write about that.

TL;DR

Oh boy, where do I start?
- Songs are mapped* really well.
- The UI is beautiful and easy to use, while remaining useful.
- The game can be modded using third-party tools. This allows you to have things such as: custom sabers, custom songs, and custom miss/fail/etc messages.
- Is NOT littered with bugs.
- VERY high polish.

I don't agree with everybody who's dissapointed in this game. I understand, but don't entirely agree. I think that:
1. A lot of things can and SHOULD change in ~6 years. Don't get mad the game grew.
2. I believe the update improved what was already a REALLY fun game.
3. The game has issues; I won't deny that. I believe, however, that having issues is nearly innevitable, especialy with minimal play-testing throughout years of development.
4. I have had a blast in this game, espeacially in multiplayer. Go grab some friends to make it even better.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this game after the updates. Don't know if I would pay the price again though.(Unless on sale)
