CS2 has significantly more features for the release compared to the release of the first part. Many things that were only possible with tons of mods in the predecessor are now integrated into the game and work intuitively. (e.g. road construction, traffic control, electricity and water supply, ...)

Innovations like industry types, upgrades for buildings, different needs for housing types, seasons and air pollution give a breath of fresh air, which was not possible in the first part even with mods.


Performance is not optimal, there is still a lot of room for improvement, but the graphics settings in the advanced mode are incredibly customizable, as I have hardly seen in any other game.

With 1-2 adjustments, like deactivating VSync, DoF and Motion Blur, you can get a lot more FPS out of it.

Even on older hardware (Ryzen 1600x, 1070ti 8GB, 32GB) you get sufficient 40-50 FPS on medium/high settings. From 50k population onwards, it was still at least 30-40 FPS. Small stuttering/1% low dips are present, but they disturb relatively little in a build-up simulation.

For PCs with less than 16GB RAM, however, I would advise against it. For people who have played the first CS with all DLCs and some mods, this should not be a problem.


Also runs well under Proton Experimental on Linux, which was very important for me. (runs even better than on WIndows)


So far still a recommendation from me, even with the performance problems. The modding support is missing, because the map selection is ok, but expandable.
