I kinda wished I had never found out this game existed.

It's not better than Battlefield Bad Company 2. It's not better than Battlefield 3. But it is still good and fun as hell. And considering how lackluster (and buggy) it was at launch, it kinda makes me hope 2042 might have a redemption arc. But considering how that game is now at launch compared to how this one was, I have serious doubts about it's chances.

Edit: Yep, 2042 will never even come close to BF4's redemption arc.

If the "overwhelmingly positive" reviews don't convince you, all I can say is that this is a truly unique experience that actually changed how I see Indie games. This is truly uniquely crafted, and it shows how much the developer loves his work. The music is probably my favorite from a game from the last decade, the story is involving, the atmosphere is fantastic, the gameplay is challenging and addictive.... I don't even know what to say more, just GET this game! It is worth the full price and if it's on sale is a steal!

Don’t mind the almost 150 hours I have logged in this game. I’m just a dumb completionist who usually wants to finish most things in the game, specially achievements.

That being said, I’m fairly confident that I’ve played this game enough to say for certain that I wouldn’t recommend it, with the exception of it being on a good sale. This game is simply not worth full price.

Before Killer is Dead I didn’t know much about Suda51’s work. I read about killer7 but never played it. I do own it on Steam though. It seems to be much better than KiD, just from what I saw on the store page. But anyway, KiD apparently has much of Suda’s pure style. And it is a lot of style indeed, but this game doesn’t care to go much beyond excessive style.

I ain’t the biggest fan of hack n’ slash games. I had a great time with Devil May Cry but that’s about it. What made me interested in Killer is Dead was its style but it only takes it so far if other features are boring.
My main problems with the game were the story, characters, the game confusing tone and different underdeveloped or lackluster aspects of the gameplay.

I’m going to start with the gameplay. It is fine, simply fine. It’s not too complex. You slash and sometimes you shoot. You build some “combos”, you dodge (and depending on the timing, you counter). Even something as simple as Arkham City’s combat is more complex than this (and more fun). It does get very repetitive considering the subpar enemy’s AI. You can use some boosts/powers for instant kills, but it suffers terribly from a lack of polish, your character will just aim for the worst thing possible. There’s not a lot of variety, so the combo system seems kinda pointless, I usually didn’t even bother looking at the combo meter or trying to get it too high. The scoring system of the missions isn’t too hard to understand and with just a few hours it’s easy to get the gist of how it works.
The bosses follow basically the same patterns as normal enemies, just dodge and counter, usually. Or cheese with the heavy cannon weapon.

This takes me to my first major complaint. The game has 5 different difficulty settings, I completed the game in all of them, and the only major differences are in how much damage the enemies do to you, how fast they attack and in how spongy they get. In the harder difficulties’ enemies take FOREVER to kill. The process is the same, it just gets more grindier and boring. You might consider it more challenging, but I think it is just more time consuming.

The game is divided into 12 chapters/missions (not counting the DLC one), with some sub-missions derived from these main ones. And, of course, the Gigolo missions (more on those later). The story of Killer is Dead is not awful. But I didn’t consider it good. It’s short, shallow (but full of allegories for historical myths/legends), and it seems to think it’s smarter than it really is. The characters are barely developed, apart from Mondo and Mika, and still, both of them have any depth or charisma. Mika is an extreme force cliché (the same goes for many characters, though) and is NOT funny. Although Mondo, the main villain and Bryan do have something that resembles a backstory, they are barely developed. The other characters are not even worth mentioning.
I don’t think any of this would be a problem, considering I’ve enjoyed a lot of games in the past with barely any story or character development, but the game’s TONE dictates that these things are important and the plenty of cutscenes are a constant reminder of how story-driven the game is or was supposed to be. The name of the game is uttered every 20 minutes and although it makes sense when it happens the first time, the other 300 hundred seem just there for show, for style, not substance, which is something that plagues the game. The game seems lost in its own presumptions, the tone is unfocused and unbalanced, the gameplay isn’t compelling, so it failed to capture my true enjoyment in every way. The Gigolo missions, for example, seem to be a way to balance the darkness of the story missions with some solace and lightheartedness, but it ends up just being creepy, undeveloped (Mondo barely has lines, the girls have like 3 or 4 and it gets stale FAST), out of place, and the worst, repetitive and just *not* fun (although you can get some enjoyment of seeing some hot digital girls in underwear, but it’s not my vibe)

In conclusion, I don’t consider Killer is Dead a BAD game. You can have fun with it, and for 75% of the price on a sale, it’s totally worth it. The graphics are beautiful in their own style, although the world is kinda hidden and the setting in all missions is never too captivating (most are just bland as hell), and the character design is nice. Voice acting in English is good as well, except for Mika which is just annoying as hell but that goes for her character as a whole. Performance is also good, although you must do some tweaks to run it in 60 fps and this will probably make it crash in one of the Gigolo missions.

I’d give it a 5/10.

P.S: Scarlett challenges suck huge balls.

Soul Suspect feels like a point & click game. That's not a downside, though. It is still a very fun, albeit slow paced game. The major positive points are the good narrative, the voice acting, some characters, the setting and feel of the city of Salem. The map could've been bigger, though. My only complaint is that the game is very easy, which is kinda reminiscent of point and click adventure games, so the only major challenge is finding collectibles, and even that is made easier with the big yellow lights that shine in most of them. Still, this is a fun game and kinda unique in its premise and I do recommend buying it, especially if it's on sale.

Back in the day Borderlands was a real game changer for me (no pun intended). It was one my first PC games bought on Steam, back when it was all sold in dollars, not even local currency. My currency was stronger compared to dollars then, though, much better times. Before Steam my life was basically piracy, buying cracked games ripped in dvds and installing them. It was fun, but Steam opened great windows, and some great games I only had the chance to play after that. Borderlands was one of the first ones from that batch. It wasn't my first great co op experience, though, that one goes for the first Killing Floor and Left 4 Dead. It was my first experience with an RPG style FPS though.

What really has always impressed me about some games that really marked my gaming life, though, is the atmosphere. Nowadays I don't feel that as much, anymore. But back in the start of the decade games like the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series, Metro, Borderlands and others had this great impact. Some time later Borderlands 2 was released and that game is still one of my favorites ever, played it for more than a thousand hours and had tons of fun playing with many friends. Still, I think the atmosphere of the first Borderlands is still a lit better than in BL2. The sound, the western feel... Just amazing.
Other than that, if compared to BL2, this game also is less restricted with violence, which contributes a lot for the atmosphere and gameplay. But that's about it. I think Borderlands 2 is better than this game in every other possible aspect.

This enhanced version does not feel a lot enhanced, but it is possible to see some graphical improvements. I also enjoy the changes to the HUD system and some of the sounds. It also does feel faster. But the differences to the original seem to stop here. It just a small enhancement, really. Some issues are still there, bugs and warts and all.

Is it worth full price? Not really. Definitely not if you already played the first one. Wait for a nice sale and give it a shot if you never played it.

However, I am grateful to have received this for free and had the opportunity to play this game again and do some of the achievements. Give another shot to the DLC (and some of the terrible grindy missions) and remember some points of the story, before the eventual release of Borderlands 3 on Steam.

A truly unique game for adults, I consider L.A. Noire a one of a kind game, for its gameplay and graphics (the facial animation capture is amazing), and mostly, for its story. Many games try to capture the film noir tone, but few manage to get close to what Team Bondi achieved in L.A. Noire. The only shortcomings are the 30fps cap, but that's justifiable, and the final act of the gaming feeling a little rushed. Still, though, the game is a wonderful experience that I highly recommend.

A truly fun game that should get more attention. As it is, I think the community playing is quite small and I also don't think the devs (or dev) is still actively working on the game.

Compared to other similar games that use music, this differential here is the ability to feel more like a driving/drifiting game, other than just switching lanes and matching colors (puzzle like) like in Audiosurf. This truly brings new possibilities to the game and makes it extremely fun after you get used to the mechanics.

Faster songs tend to be much more fun to play then slow ones, but the recognition system not always agrees with what makes a song "fast". Mid-tempo songs can be great for long drifts as well.

Visually the game follows the pattern of other music games, with many strong neon-like colors, but the levels are changed depending on the style of music played (Jazz, classical, rock, hip-hop). I think in this aspect, the colors of the pickups, barriers and other arctifacts found in the tracks, the colors might be confusing. For this type of game is always great to have a "forward" vision, always looking at what's coming next, not exactly at your car, but still, this could've been improved. The cars and skins are purely aesthetic, and don't change the gameplay at all.

Although the Steam page says the game has multi-player, the only feature like that in the game is the "ghost" system where you can play against someone else's run in the same song that you're playing. It can be quite fun and challenging, adds another layer to the play.

Some bugs are present, usually in how the tracks are built. Sometimes jumps don't connect, and gaps make you fall out of the track. Physics can be quite messed up, specially regarding jumps, where you can jump around, be stuck, flip (even when you weren't supposed to) after you connect again to the track.

Overall, I do recommend this game, and I think it should reveceive more attention. It's quite the gem, and with almost 100hours played, I've had tons of fun on it and it might become my favorite music game ever (though competition with Audiosurf though).

I think all the praise this game could've received, it already has, so i won't talk much about it. I recommend Mass Effect 2 for any gamer who is passionate about RPG type shooters and great storylines. Although ME3 was kinda rushed and didn't live to the huge expectations this game set, it is still a must buy and must play. Bioware managed to craft another great sci-fi saga that shall be remembered for decades to come, and not even Andromeda shall make this any less true.

This game is my religion. It's so awesome that when i die, i'll take it with me to my grave. I'd have sex with this game and then i'd marry it.
