Payday 2 is a fantastic game, and still receiving support and updates from its developers even two years down the line. In it, you play from an assortment of characters who on their own have no special capabilities, but by running heists, you earn experience and levels to assign points to various skill trees to flesh out your abilities. The recent updates have rebalanced the weapon sets so that many of them are much more viable than before, and the game continues to receive new heists and equipment as time goes by.

The game has recently come under fire from a vocal group who have mistaken pre-release rumor squashing from two plus years ago as ironclad resolutions (one from a man who no longer works for the company) to prevent a business model from being implemented in a game they enjoy.

What has happened is the game has received something similar to the Mannconomy Update from TF2, where safes can drop after the completion of a heist, and require the use of a key that costs $2.50 to open. The safes, like the crates in TF2, are entirely optional, and offer weapon skins that give minor statistical benefits at worst, and emulate common mod-loadouts while excluding the use of the same mods at best.

Do not let these reviews dissuade you from trying an actually enjoyable game! Just be aware that these are people who, should you join their lobby with one of these weapon skins equipped (as the game shows your character with their chosen mask and any weapon skins when you join), they will kick you to prevent you from playing with them.
