This is more than I thought. 8 years of development really shows in this game. I really enjoyed The Witness and I enjoyed playing this even more. It invokes so much curiosity, that I can't stop playing it.
Definitely worth a try even for those that aren't good at puzzles.

Cannot recommend enough, just like the first game.

Beautiful visuals mixed with the recursive element. Really stunning to look at.

The gameplay felt standard but not very immersive due to snappy movement between recursions

The puzzle mechanics were great, but pretty generic and simple.

The music is subpar and repetitive, goes well with the atmosphere but is not very memorable.

And lastly the story feels very forced to the point where I felt very uninterested in the main character and story in general. It also felt very out of place and would appreciate the game more without it.

This game sadly had more narrative than puzzle elements.
As I generally rank gameplay above visuals in this order Gameplay/Mechanics > Music/Sound > Story/Visuals. I unfortunately cannot recommend this game. Recursive Ruin couldn't make me replay it again recursively.

👀 ← These are satisfied.

In all honesty tho, this game is beautiful and uses it's mechanics to even tell a short story about the journey.
Fantastic and unique experience altogether.

No words. Truly a unique experience.
Never seen any game pull out ideas like OneShot did.

Looking at all these reviews I noticed that a LOT of people didn't really pay attention.
Yes, the main ending is so unsatisfying, but I do believe that was done on purpose.
The game basically puts you back to the start and resets your progress, but this time with your added knowledge about puzzles; mainly the Environmental Puzzles

If you like just solving puzzles and look at the gorgeous scenery, this game is exactly what you need.
If you need to discover a reason behind the lore of the game, I'm afraid you won't get much more than 2 endings. One is metaphorical (normal ending) and the other one simple, but self explanatory (secret ending).

If you want to challenge yourself try solving all 523 panels, the game keeps track of them all in your saves.
Or better yet 523+135+6 (523 panels & 135 Environmental Puzzles that solves 6 obelisks through out the island)

Watch for easter eggs which are located basically everywhere. It requires perspective, but it's very well hidden. Every rock, every statue has a meaning.
