Was an alright game I couldn't really get into. I only came back to give it a downvote to let everyone know that it's now owned by Tencent (A Chinese mega corporation that seeks to increase the CCP's economic dominance by buying out foreign studios and one that is very eager to serve that country's interest), and that all offline features are removed. I strongly recommend a hard pass at this and any future Funcom games.

Early Access Review
Great game if you're willing to accept the fact you won't be making Oscar making moments. Devs do have a balance problem with new mechanics as they introduce more mechanics. There are a few frustrations that come with the nature of the being a multiplayer focused game. You may push a lot of ground only to wake up to having lost most of what you took because the enemy stayed on longer than you. The community is usually pretty good but there is something about big update sale wars that can bring out the nastier members for some reason.

Gets a point off for using Geckos instead of Salamanders.

It's a bit hard to believe that this game was released in 2009. With the constant updates, community support, and a player base that is still active, it would be easy to think this is a recent release.

For a short review of this game; yes. This game is well worth your money, considering how easy it is to become addicted.

For those that perfer a longer review:

Now this game is a Co-op focused game, yes it does have a playable SP (Single Player) but it's the same gameplay with less monsters and a tenser atmosphere. The true fun comes with being cooperative and working as a team. The concept is very simple, you fend of waves of zombies, not all simple shamblers, for your life. Now while this doesn't sound exciting, it's the execution that is really worth it.

*Gameplay*

This is a FPS shooter at its core, you control a survivor in some map being invaded by every zombie on the planet. To spice this up, the game offers classes, which offer bonuses to certain actions. For example, the Sharpshooter gets a bonus to headshot damage. For these bonuses to increase you have to level up that class, but you do so by filling a quota of actions, instead of simply grind EXP. These classes are also set up to avoid "lock ins" so it's very easy to switch from one class to another.

*Weapons*

The roster of weapons for this game is one of the largest I have ever seen, riviling competitive shooters. Each class has weapons that they get a bonus for, and each has a special feature about them. The weapons for the sharpshooter (Pistols, rifles, crossbow) are designed to be accurate and powerful. The Beserker (Melee weapons) allow massive damage for those who want to get up close. The medic (SMGs) weapons have a secondary fire that allow 'healing shots.' Demolitions (Explosives) allow for massive damage to a crowd, just be aware of the friendly fire. Fire Bugs (Fire weapons.. duh) allow rooms to be easily cleared out and set fire to the unfortunate undead that wonder into their sights. Support specialists are your shotgunners, they are designed to make wide gaps in the wave of the dead.

*Enemies*

The enemies are not the dumbest. While the simple shamblers are simple cannon fodder for your Sharpshooter, even they have something special about them that will allow them to take you down. That's something this game does right, every enemy is a threat, they all have something special about them that requires a degree of strategy. They can also spawn almost anywhere, making finding a truely safe spot hard and rare to find since they can come in any and all directions, sometimes even from above.

*Final Thoughts*

The basics of this game is truely addicting and gurantees good old fashioned carnage and violence for fun. However, this game is also a Co-op game through and through, so the level of enjoyment one will have depends on the people playing (A large majority I have runned into are friendly and don't go all hog the loot) so before considering the rest that I have listed, just think if Co-op is for you. The game is challenging enough to offer satsfication (Esspecially since if you die, you lose your progress, or the match if everyone dies). If all you're looking for is a game to just kick back and play with your friends, this is one game that I highly reccomend, and with all the content avaible for the game, it can keep you well beyond playing. I give this game a Sawbow out of ten.
