Put 130 hours into multiplayer and loved it. Didn't play for about a year and came back to get banned within 2 hours of playing. Have never cheated, hacked, modded, or used any third party programs. A hacker dropped money on everyone in a public server of about 20 people, don't know if anyone else got banned too. I got spammed with messages saying "Rockstar could not complete your transaction" so I couldn't even find a new session or close the game. I ended up closing it with task manager and just finding a new lobby.

Rockstar deleted characters upon suspension. The character I put 130 hours into got deleted and I got a 30 day suspension. I already had over 20 million dollars worth of stuff, and I lose it all because someone else shot about 100k at me. Rockstar won't even review the ban, let alone appeal it. Every ticket I submit gets instantly closed with an automated response saying all bans are final. I've posted about it in the Rockstar forums and my post got deleted. After Googling the issue, there are complaints about GTA Online bans all over the Steam reviews, and both the Rockstar and Steam forums. The worst part about this is that Rockstar could see everyone's transaction history. They can just remove the money off the account of whoever this happens to. But I guess it's easier to ban them and reset their progress entirely than to individually manage accounts.

Every lobby with 10 or more people is almost guaranteed to have a hacker just openly jacking without a worry, not even trying to hide it. If they just worked on banning the actual hackers, the real players wouldn't have to worry. But from what I see, people like me are the ones getting banned because of Rockstar's new zero tolerance for hackers. I love GTA Online but I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone knowing how common this kind of stuff is. I can't even imagine the people's frustration in similar situations, with characters that they have spent well over 130 hours on.
