I want to like this
but I can already tell the early-game is going to be a consistently terrible experience where you have no tools with which to puzzle-solve. and the puzzles (opponents) appear to have no sanity check on if you can actually clear the challenges randomly presented.
I have one dodge. The boss has five. I just lose here, there's no escaping that. it's a really cool system, but you have to actually have options, and especially, some devil-bargains to always have something available, at cost to yourself.

As it is presently? well this Ogoi fellow... I can punch and get punished, or I can kick and get punished, or I can stand in place and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ die. No items on the field, no armed opponents, just stand and die like a chump because you'll be punished for even moving.

lovely concept, currently a misery simulator, do not play this.
Tasks are just unmanageable as a single player, nonstop fixing components while bombs casually float up and take out three segments per, reloading the gun empties the entire magazine and forces a full reload, meanwhile shoveling coal and doing text-based QTEs... this all culminates in a perpetual run-away loser setup. You don't have time or advantages to manage even the basic setup, and adding any more on top will only harm you.

If you just love unmitigatable failure, this is a game for you.

honestly tired of collecting plastic crap in games
really tired of having five zone hazards simultaneously spawn on top of me
especially don't care for just.. leaving my progress strewn over the road.

This game has a good heart but it's kinda garbage to experience it.

Absolutely delightful, a huge emphasis on movement and playgrounds over frame to frame combat, lends itself to a lovely time.
Don't worry about the times. really don't. this is the demo and the times are all over the place. nothing is final. if you like trying, you'll get better.

All in all a quality product, free of obstructive marketing, with well-honed game systems and a clear vision of what experience it intends to provide. Monster Hunter #24 is a welcome addition to the family, and even a positive direction-shift to colorful monsters, elaborate and occasionally silly gear, and nuanced skills. A few tragically bland designs from World linger on, but mod tools will let us swap that trash out sooner or later.

Visual quality is doing a lot of... I couldn't say what. Strongly recommend disabling;
- Frame-Generation, for stability. Hunting companions routinely crashed with this enabled, and not without.
- Supersampling of any kind, as this feature turns the game into a genuinely headache-inducing mass of pixel vomit. It's like putting on prescription glasses, really quite jarring.

Optimizing frame rate remains an ongoing process, and I have my doubts I'll ever see 60, let alone firmly stay at 60, but my 1080 Ti is chugging along to make it playable at 25-30 consistently with visual effects set mostly at mid, and many demanding effects disabled altogether.

Base game is wonderful. This will break it.

The DLC adds five lovely maps, and three variations on old maps. It also adds the nifty new [Unstable Transmitter] green, which can act as a second layer of one-shot protection every minute or so, stacks depending.

EVERY other item will harm your playthrough, whether subtly, by tanking your ability to heal, move or deal damage by one mechanism or another, or overtly, being simple dead weight. At least one [Warped Echo] can break your run or crash your game!
New interactables are bad. Shrine of Shaping is a life insurance buff at the cost of 30% hp. It's... really just uninteresting, and self-defeating. Halcyon Shrine, the new portal mechanism for seekers, is the size of a postage stamp, and produces awful new Halcyonite minibosses.

Characters; Seeker is passable, Ult doesn't really flow with the game, ability kit isn't terrible but she was immediately forgotten on the shelf. Chef was well demonstrated by modders and by the original game, this new guy is ... disappointing.

But most unforgivably; the false son. Is simply broken. Sometimes characters straight up die upon crossing the threshold to the boss arena. No mobs visible, just return to menu, goodbye. Sometimes the arena is just... empty. Nothing happens. No escape, no way to die, just... stuck. And very, very rarely, you'll crash to desktop.

Early Access Review
the game is fine and competently made. if you like a bad time, it's here for you.

but to future-me, personally. stop re-installing this. it is not fun or enjoyable. It never was, and no part of the design suggests it ever will be. you just death loop and get bored and angry, but you don't give up either. You want to press on with complications and build something, but there's nothing of note to make, and with starvation and dehydration slowly poisoning you and bringing your capacity down for every tick you play, you'll just do it so slowly or accomplish so little it makes you miserable.

This is interesting, and it's definitely got fun aspects, but the more I play and the more invested I get, the more I realize the first five or ten minutes of a run are deadly-boring. just... autopilot, pay attention to something else. feels like time wasting. Same reason I stepped away from playing Vampire Survivor until it came out with new content.
A lot of the run is just.. burning time until you are rewarded with resources to play with. that doesn't feel good. in fact it's rather hypnotic and sleep-inducing at that point.

playing with different abilities, poking and planning around the hidden talent grid, that's great, it's fine, genuinely engaging concepts, but I'd rather start with something a little more meaty to think about or perform, especially after achieving mastery 3. I'm not sure how I got to seven hours played with only a handful of runs.
