After conversing with a representative, The launcher using Peer-to-peer connections to download updates. Although you HAVE to seed, you can limit the amount of users trying to seed from you to 30. I've experienced less issues iwth this and really enjoy the game as a mix of hack-and-slash and RTS elements.

Very addicting hack-and-slash that's easy to learn but hard to master. Definitely recommend it!
