Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is an outrageous, fantasy-infused spinoff of the OG looter shooter and a direct follow-up to the Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep DLC from 2013. As a game within a game, Wonderlands has you playing through a simulated tabletop roleplaying campaign called Bunkers and Badasses, a sort of alternate-reality Dungeons and Dragons that replaces generic fantasy tropes with absurdity, gratuitous violence, and tons of guns regardless of whether they’re setting-appropriate or not. But that’s the magic of this larger-than-life looter-shooter RPG, which throws caution to the wind and embraces chaos and nonsense in favor of ludicrous and memorable moments.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a fantastic fantasy take on Borderlands’ tried-and-true looter shooter formula. As spin-offs go, it sticks dangerously close to its past successes which at times felt a bit unoriginal and some of the new stuff it tries, like procedurally generated combat encounters, didn’t pan out terribly well. Luckily, the excellent writing, hilarious performances from an all-star cast, and ridiculous combat continue to shine brightly and make this tabletop-inspired explosion-fest absolutely worth your time.

The game has an incredible amount of potential, but has a long way to go.

As someone who has over 12,000 hours in competitive shooters, my opinion is that this game will make it far and hold it's own just fine as long as the content team keep pushing out creative updates and the developers continue to patch the bugs, optimize the game and bring in quality of life changes. As a professional esports athelete, I do not think this game will enter the esports scene. Tournaments may occur, however, the game mechnics really need to be ironed out and evaluated for competitive play, however, that may change in the future. The best way I describe this game is that it's a neat combination of Destiny 2 and Call of Duty, perhaps certain aspects from Apex Legends in terms of ability/gun weapon sets with an almost Borderland vibe. I do believe that the graphics are pleasing, however, as someone on a $8000 rig - I would love to see much higher graphics, ray-tracing, etc which might come in the future. This is a freshing game, most enjoyable with friends. Currently I'm grinding out what I can, however, it's one of those games that can be easily burnt out in it's current state - much like HyperScape, the population of the game will grow and grow, and that's when the development team and their publisher will be put to the real test. Wether or not this is a game I will recommend a year from now is something else, however, in it's current state it's a ton of a fun, lots of potential and worth the hype. I wish the best for Frag Lab LLC.

Introduction

Apex Legends, developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts (EA), is a highly acclaimed battle royale game that has garnered a massive player base since its launch in February 2019. The game stands out for its fast-paced game-play, unique character abilities, and strategic team-based mechanics. However, recent developments and ongoing issues have sparked significant controversy within the community.

Game-play and Features

Apex Legends excels in its innovative game-play, combining elements of traditional battle royale with hero-based mechanics. Players select from a roster of "Legends," each with unique abilities that add depth and strategy to the game. The fluid movement system, including sliding and zip-lining, enhances the game's dynamic combat, making it a thrilling experience.

Visuals and Design

The game boasts high-quality graphics and meticulously designed maps. The visual and audio cues are top-notch, providing players with crucial information during intense firefights. The aesthetic design of each Legend and their skins also contributes to the game's appeal. However, the game has been criticised for constant visual clutter, which can detract from the overall experience and hinder game-play clarity. Additionally, persistent audio issues have been reported, affecting players' ability to accurately detect enemy movements and actions.

Community and Updates

Respawn has consistently updated Apex Legends with new content, including Legends, weapons, maps, and limited-time events. These updates keep the game fresh and engaging, encouraging players to return for new experiences.

Monetisation Controversy

Despite its strengths, Apex Legends faces backlash due to its aggressive monetisation strategies. A significant portion of the game's content, including character skins, weapon skins, and other cosmetics, is locked behind a paywall. This has led to accusations of the game being "money hungry." Players argue that the reliance on micro-transactions detracts from the overall experience, as some of the most desirable items are only accessible through significant spending.

Recent Issues

The latest issues have intensified community dissatisfaction. Technical problems, such as server instability and bugs, have plagued recent updates, affecting gameplay quality. Additionally, the in-game economy and pricing of cosmetics have been criticised for being exorbitant, limiting accessibility for many players. The game also suffers from a high number of cheaters, arguably the highest across any game, which significantly impacts fair play and overall enjoyment.

EA's Role and Backlash

EA, as the publisher, has been perceived as prioritising shareholder interests over player satisfaction. The company's focus on maximising revenue has led to decisions that alienate the player base. As a result, Respawn, the development team, bears the brunt of the backlash and negative feedback. Despite their efforts to communicate and address player concerns, they often find themselves in a difficult position, balancing EA's demands with community expectations.

Conclusion

Apex Legends remains a standout title in the battle royale genre, offering engaging game-play and a rich visual experience. However, its monetisation practices, recent technical issues, constant visual clutter, persistent audio problems, and rampant cheating have marred its reputation. EA's emphasis on shareholder interests, coupled with the ensuing backlash directed at Respawn, highlights the ongoing tension between corporate objectives and community satisfaction. Moving forward, finding a balance that prioritises player experience while meeting financial goals will be crucial for the game's continued success.

Absolute fun, plenty to do and it never gets boring. Would love a PayDay 3 with higher graphics and more weapon mod options.

Rather annoyed, I play this on mac and recently it's been unplayable (stuck on the loading screen).

Back in the day this game was super fun, and I hope to get into it and get into a series again soon.
