Early Access Review
Everyone has (hopefully!) heard of "Bastion" when it made waves in the blossoming indie game space in 2011; known for its beautiful, gritty narration, gorgeous aesthetics and clean gameplay, all crafted by Supergiant Games. Then they did it all over again with the touching and unique "Transistor".

This time, they're entering a much, much more saturated market in the roguelike genre, where you'd expect the signature narrative style of Supergiant to be harmed somewhat. I'm pleased and super impressed to see that all of their narrative and isometric charm have been carried over brilliantly in Hades. Between the game's "codex" entries that encourage dialogue between the prominent characters in the hub-area between runs, fantastic voice acting and deep lore of Greek mythology, all the narrative bread around this roguelike sandwich is brilliant.

As for the meat in the middle, a.k.a. the gameplay itself, Supergiant has made their tightest controls of any game so far, making the player feel as zippy as Hermes while packing a punch to rival Lord Ares himself! The run variation isn't as bonkers as other games in this space like Dead Cells or Binding of Isaac where the entire game can look different depending on your loadout and synergies, but I expect this will grow much more as we approach v1.0 and beyond. As it is, the choice of weapons and "boons" that empower your moves are still varied enough to keep me very satisfied for the time being.

At this point I think I would buy any game Supergiant Games pumps out considering how freaking genius they are repeatedly. Hades has just made me even more certain of this, and cemented the developer in my mind as "one to watch" forever.

Good game!

Fantastic silly shooter where the objective is to kill with styyyle. This involves such moves as diving through the air while shooting two stallion pistols or pump action shotty at another person who is also at that point in time diving through the air, or perhaps jumping after a person who accidentally fell off of the rooftop to finish the job on the way down before you both go splat. AND IT'S FREE. If you like silly shooters or perhaps TF2 then you should definitely give this a shot.
