Early Access Review
You're the boss, not the groundskeeper
Can I just talk about how big of an itch this phrase alone scratches for me? I love management games, I love being the boss, ordering subordinates around, negotiating, taking risks and all the other challenges that come with being the head honcho. However, this is not actually a common genre, not many games like this actually exist. If you look up the management category on steam you can find a bunch of tycoon games and management sims alike but they just don’t focus on the management, they rather focus on the building part. Whenever I play those games, I feel like an architect or a planner but never the boss.

Now, lets talk about Hollywood Animal
You’re the boss. You deal with employees, manage resources, oversee the filmmaking, and plan the marketing. You’re not thinking about moving some furniture around. You’re thinking about people and the art they’re making; your competition and ways to overcome them, maybe even getting your hands dirty if you need to. Weappy scratched this itch for me with their TITP series, where the world isn’t all sunshine and rainbows and staying at the top means sacrificing some ethical codes you might have. This is one of HA’s main topics as well, a bit of intrigue sprinkled on top of a strategy game is kind of their signature touch.

Early Access?
Early Access games are usually a bit of a risky investment but in this case I think not. Weappy truly cares to make a good game, they have been active with their community on Discord and the signs they showed from the demo to the release date is very positive. They released two demos with a good amount of content. A lot of people were ready to jump in and buy the game right there and then since the demo was very promising but they didn’t want to cash in on that and release the early access in a hurry, it even got delayed a few months because they wanted to release “a juicy cut of the game”, it was unpopular but they took the time they needed to polish.

I think understanably so, because this is actually a very ambitious and a passionate project. It’s supposed to cover, I believe, around 60 years of cinema? If every act is around 20 years. Imagine a grand strategy game but you’re playing through the history of hollywood instead. It’s not an easy game to make, but given Weappy’s track record, they have my vote of confidence.

Imagine making a game that is %90 side quests then writing the story in such a way that you need to do mental gymnastics to be able to do the said side quests.

Start of the game, you're told that you're in a hurry, you're also curious so you do main quests to start with. Afterwards maybe you want to do a couple of side missions, ok, but after one or two you're basically going to get a call like "I need you right now, get over here v!" ok, so you keep doing the main quest because you're basically always told that you need to be somewhere asap. The main story is interesting enough, but when it just feels like its going somewhere, boom ACT III, you would be like maybe 10 hours in at this moment if you didn't do mental gymnastics to ignore the main story and played it immersively and now you're at the end of the game with getting a phone call that basically tells you "don't keep me waiting, visit me".

You now have two choices, either pretend like you didn't get that phone call, and play the said side quests that make the %90 of the game or you dont and finish the game over maybe 10-15 hours. "But there is a dlc too now! Ok, but im still going to have to pretend like I never got that call. It feels like there was 0 communication between the people who made the story and the game design or we got like 1/3s of the game we were supposed to have.

The RPG aspect of the game is non-existent, there is no RPG here. It's an action-adventure game. Dialogue doesn't matter much, don't be fooled by those shiny options, its just an extra piece of dialogue of (mostly) no influence to the game.

However, it does one thing pretty good, the cutscenes are straight up the best in the industry, all story based games should take inspiration from cypberpunk's cutscenes.

The 2.0 updates to the game are very mild stuff, people pretend like its a completely different game when all they've done is integrate a few mods (though the metro system in particular is amazing), at this time, i would say vanilla isn't much more different than launch but with bugs fixed, and the same people who shat on the game back then probably praise it now, weathervanes they are.

You'd think that we would get rest of the game with the 2.0 updates but nah, its mostly them just adding nvidia's latest tech to the game every few months and breaking the mods and its disappointing, so disappointing. You can feel the potential the game had while playing it, the base of it is so good, but everything is missing, it feels so full but also empty at the same time. The story supposed to be here isn't, the mechanics are missing, the promises aren't here.

You'd think we would get them, but no, cd projekt has already moved on, to the sequel no less, and I fear people are going to be falling for it again.
