Early Access Review
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Too long, did not read:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good: Simulated players are fun, chat is fun, group combat is cool to see and works well.

Neutral: NPC interactions need getting used to.

Bad: UI not good, clunky and sometimes glitchy. Quests are rather lacking. Gameplay is tedious and some classes are just AFK simulators at the start (approx. first 1.5-2h). (First) Dungeon design is kinda bland, not good. Labyrinth of corridors.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Detailed Review:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In it's current state I can't recommend the game even as early access title.

I'll start with the good:
- The simulated players seem quite decent
- The group combat does work well and it's cool how the simulated players actually follow their roles as healer, tank etc.
- The simulated players banter in chat in fun ways, react to certain stuff (death, being hit etc.). The chat feels somewhat real but there's definitely gonna be repetition (I've occasionally looked at it within the 2-3h I played the demo + full version and already seen the same few joke lines repeated).

Neutral, stuff I'm "Eh" about:
- Interacting with NPCs is rather unconventional. It's kind of a weird mix between Morrorwind and WoW in which you greet them (by pressing a separate button instead of clicking on them), then like in Morrorwind, you select highlighted topics in the chat window.
- To give NPCs quest items, you'll have to drag the items from your inventory onto the NPC you want to give it to. Talking to them to redeem quests is not an option.
- There's no quest markers at all for NPCs from what I was able to tell. You'll have to talk to every single one of them to find all the quests there are.

Now to the actual reasons why I can't recommend it in it's current state:
- The UI is not good. It's kinda clunky occasionally glitches. "It does it's job", is what I'd say.
- Quests could be made more interesting and especially some could be given better journal entries even if 'old school'. I don't know if this is a starting area issue, or an everywhere issue. But it's a pretty weak start either way.
- Dungeon design is bland, uninteresting. It's a labyrinth of corridors with rooms sprinkled in between that each get 1 to 3 enemies. The end of the corridor holds either nothing or a named enemy who's slightly tougher.

The worst offender:
- Gameplay is.. not exactly fun. At least very much not at the start. I do realise that it's going for oldschool and all, but I do still think that the gameplay loop could be made a lot more interesting.

Hitting the same enemy for a solid minute (with a full group btw, as a note), pressing the one, maybe two damage abilities you get at the start of the game is just tedious. And god forbid you're a duelist which I looked up, only gets a casted damage ability at level 6! Until then it's just standing there and waiting for your character to swing their sword(s).

The gameplay especially starts lacking once you enter the aforementioned bland dungeon. Each room of enemies is 3-5 minutes of mostly waiting for your cooldowns as you make your way through the endless corridors of doom.

--- Edit 20.04.2025 ---
Timing the time to kill with new party members (levels 4-5) and a level up in arcanist (level 5) resulted in a time to kill of 20s on the more sturdier enemies, about 10s on average within the dungeon (not including name enemies who took up to a minute to kill).

As I didn't time the combat with my phone and went on feeling, in the first writing of the review, it may be that I just had bad party members (I do remember the DPS being lower) but it likely also was feeling longer than it actually. Possibly due to the mentioned downtime in activity.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I would expect in the future:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UI is self explanatory really: Make it less clunky, less prone to visual or mechanical glitches.
Honestly, I expected more quests. Especially 'levelling' quests (kill X monsters) would be great at the start to maybe skip tedious early game segments. Can be avoided if gameplay is improved.
Dungeon design would be great if it can be improved, but will take time of course.

Gameplay:
Give every class something to do please. Just some basic ability that's castable repeatedly right at the start of the game.
It replaces downtime that you're waiting for things to come off cooldown and enables you to then start casting chains (Ability X, X, Y, Z, X, X, Y, Z etc.). It may not be much but it's much more entertaining if you get to actually do something instead of just waiting.

Also, I'd really appreciate lowering the healthpools of enemies. It shouldn't take a party of 4 an entire minute to beat down 1 enemy. This was the case both in the demo and in the full release with different party compositions.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Closure
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really did want to enjoy the game and like it as I am very much in the section of "Wants to play an MMO but does not have time for all the grinding / social stuff". It's just not great and very much a letdown at the moment, but I do hope it will be improved upon. I'd really love to see this evolve.

It is fun to play around with the world, interact with things.
But so far the gameplay has been lacking (to be fair, I only have 1.6h in it). Melee feels powerless, even if you smash a cinder block against their head with full force.

Gunplay seems unrealistic and gun manipulation is on bare minimum. Even Pavlov has more gun manipulation (magazine eject and bolt catch should be standard).

The physics are janky, but still fun to play around with. But it also seems weirdly unrealistic at times when the objects just swing after your hand or bounce just too perfectly.
It feels unpolished currently, but it definitely has potential if they fix the bugs like crashing on certain parts (not my own experience but seen in a video) and a controller suddenly not working anymore (still worked in the SteamVR overlay, so it wasn't the controller itself).
With the sparse checkpoints, it can be really frustrating to experience such things, even so, more checkpoints would also be nice, must not really be manual saves too, just more. Frustrating to spend multiple minutes running because you died to a turret you didn't see.

I'd say to follow it for now and come back in 2-3 months and see if they improved the physics / fixed the bugs.

It's just like Battlefield 1 with tank only mode!
Also this game proves that the earth isn't a sphere, it's flat. I fell off the edge of the world.

10/10 Would fall again.
