p. fun. double weapons really simplifies the decision space. cowards didnt allow 4 blades though. imagine that, 4 laser swords spinning and swinging.

a love letter to late 90s, early 00s jrpgs.

takes the best elements from that era and does it own thing with them. the movement is ff6 and fluid, the writing is competent, the lore blends ff7's lifestream with lovercraftian influences. there's a lot of nods to xenogears, some probably even unintentional (a story plot just abruptly ending and being told via on-screen text a la the infamous disc 2.) there's a cute combat tag system that feels like an answer to the frustrations we all had as kids to not being able to play with enough of the characters at once (but then throwing in so many chars anyway you're still slightly annoyed)! the puzzles are serviceable. the way old maps are reused as you unlock new modes of travel is pretty well thought out and enjoyable. the story itself works pretty well. the motivations of the main characters make sense, they themselves being well-rounded. a lot of quality of life things (such as the exit game option right there after you save the game, and the ability to retry a fight from the game over screen but first starting you from the game menu in case you wish to change some gear around). the music is great! there's a system in place to make sure all your characters are the same "level", and "level-ups" are doled out only after reaching certain milestones in the story. this however does not prevent GRINDing, which we all love, since the Skills themselves have levels like ff8's gf abilities. then there's the "materia" system, with crystals that you can combine and slot into your gear. those are nice, but you upgrade your gear so quickly if you rush the main story that it's annoying having to unslot and upgrade and reslot all the "materia" again. luckily, the game doesn't really seem to require you to engage with this system to beat the bosses, so you can limit it to just a few characters with insane damage output (you'll know who).

overall, a great game. still haven't finished it, so i cannot comment on the satisfaction of the plot. everything else feels good though. if you need to scratch that jrpg itch, give this one a whirl.

those nerds that played ttrpgs in the 80s? yeah, they grew up, and they're very horny.

Game needs a Slider option in Settings to Turn off the Woke! This is crazy! I'm actually allowed to beat up officers of the law? Fallout didn't let you harm children, which was hated at the time but Correct IMO. SF6 should do the same for the Police Officiers that Defend Our Cities and Protect Our Lives from the Thugs on the Streets. Put the Cop AI code on the Blockchain maybe? All Cops are Blockchained. Only way to solve this.

fun game. mechanical. tough bosses. Nightmare mode needs some grinding before each boss (maybe 10-30 minutes.)

What can you really say? The GOAT of all time!
