The game is fun and being able to actually travel from zone to zone on foot is amazing for the immersion and feeling of exploration, feels a lot like the guiding lands from world but far bigger. However, performance is an issue.

For starters, the recommended settings should give us the requirements needed for 60fps @ 1080p medium WITHOUT frame gen. Frame gen is detrimental to a game like Monster Hunter where tight responsive controls are paramount.

Next, the frame rate drops whenever you pan the camera quickly due to how the game is streaming in the textures. This is due to the game using outdated direct storage dlls. Also, the game's texture decompression is faulty, with some textures like the Keeper's white coats having artifacting due to how the game is decompressing the textures.

Add in Capcom's in house Anti-Tamper that is running on multiple threads and the likelyhood that the RE engine is not made for wide open games like Wilds and are more for corridor shooters and you can see why there are plenty of complaints on the game's optimizations.

Some of these things like the Direct Storage DLL's should be easily fixable, but if the engine is really not handling the game's open world design well, then it may take a lot more for Capcom to properly fix the performance if they do fix it.

Great story, last act is a bit weak as per Larian, but overall a fun time. The changes Larian made to the 5E rules for the most part feel better than the actual 5E rules. Wished you could go higher in level without mods though.

The main gimmick of turning into paper allows for interesting movement tech. Connection has been stable and the game play is solid. Art style is beautiful. Main issue is the region lock which they stated they are addressing; only remaining issue is how hard it is to request a region change especially with how some people are being assigned to the wrong region.

Retroactively adding Enigma DRM, breaking the game on the steamdeck, high possibility that the DRM also affects performance, all while trying to hide information about it. Cannot recommend the game while Capcom does these scummy practices.

Also, doesn't EU law require companies to be transparent about the DRM they use?

Recital 43: "The notion of functionality should be understood to refer to the ways in which digital content or a digital service can be used. For instance, the absence or presence of any technical restrictions such as protection via Digital Rights Management or region coding could have an impact on the ability of the digital content or digital service to perform all its functions having regard to its purpose. The notion of interoperability relates to whether and to what extent digital content or a digital service is able to function with hardware or software that is different from those with which digital content or digital services of the same type are normally used. Successful functioning could include, for instance, the ability of the digital content or digital service to exchange information with such other software or hardware and to use the information exchanged."

If you provide a good game and service, DRM is not needed at all.

Simply put the game is overpriced. There is no justification for the $70 USD base game price tag, let alone the $65 DLC for future card sets which brings the total price to an absolutely absurd $135. That is more than most deluxe/ultimate editions of Triple A Games. Let that sink in: the game with the main DLC that you definitely would want costs more than deluxe/ultimate editions of Triple A games.

Some people may say this is due to inflation, but that simply is not correct. $70 is what Triple A game cost and that price is somewhat justified by the cost of making a Triple A game. Dear Days is not a Triple A game and did not cost anywhere near what a Triple A game costs to make.

It is a shame because the game is legitimately fun and fills the niche of a PC Vanguard game. However, that price tag is prohibitive and is likely to actually cause a smaller population for the online multiplayer. So even if you are someone whose wallet does not feel the difference between $40 and $135 (aka the only people who should even consider the game at its current price), you are still going to be negatively impacted by the smaller online population.

Wait for a serious sale (not just some small sale like 10 or 20%, but a serious one like 40-50%), because it would be idiotic to not have one. This is actually a fun and decent game, but it is definitely not worth the ludicrous price tag of $135.

Cleared it on first run with my group. We were on Journeyman difficulty. RNG didn't screw us too much, a rather fair amount really. At times it felt like the game was a bit too easy, but there were a couple sweat drop moments. Overall, totally a fair game.

Early Access Review
Great with friends. I am a bit of an introvert so I don't really play the game with strangers and too much of a coward to solo; and I feel that the game is best enjoyed with personal friends anyway. That said, I feel that once you get the hang of things and you become a well oiled ghost hunter machine with your friends, the game can get very easy even on professional. But until that honeymoon period runs out, while everyone is a bumbling paranoid mess, it is a great experience.

A terrific game, however Capcom is refusing to give us the gameplay features of the special edition. I can't recommend an objectively worse version of the game. Until the Special Edition is released for PC, I cannot recommend the PC version.

Hunt monsters, make weapons and armor from said monsters, hunt even bigger monster, rinse and repeat. It is a really satisfying loop as always.
