I'm removing my review and changing it to a positive, for SOLELY one reason.
With the reveal of Dying Light: The Beast, they're shifting focus away from Dying Light 2 and putting it towards an entirely new game. This replaces DLC2, which Ultimate Edition owners will still receive.
I view this as a net positive-- after everything that has been done to Dying Light 2, it would be far too little, far too late to revive it and make it as good as DL1 ever was.
Cautiously optimistic, but optimistic nonetheless.
Buy this if it's on sale. It's... okay.

This entire game series has become my fourth favourite game franchise of all time. The only crime it's committed has been not putting out a new game in forever lmao.

I won't (correction; tried not to) go into depth since it's been a long while since I played it, but the basic gist is this;
I had just finished my second run of the Harran Prison or whatever it's called. That raid area. Did the challenge for those "legendary weapons," I think the axe. Fought all the enemies with melee only, actually had a good time up until the boss fight(s). That was just tedious. So I grab whatever loot I can, leave, and go back to the mainland; the village on the shore under the bridge, I believe. I take my axe out and decide to test it out, give it a few swings, I think. Just seeing the animation was satisfying. Then I go and actually use it, and... I'm barely getting any f***ing damage on them. At this point I sort of know the general area to aim for when you want to decapitate a zombie, so I keep trying that. Nothing. So I retreat, try to use my grapple, and... nothing. After some trial and error I realize that after seventy hours put into this game I've enjoyed every step of the way, a game that's been out for four years and has DLC that I legitimately don't understand, (like, are the crafted weapons just getting renamed??? I don't get it.) I just wasted seventy hours of my life because of a gamebreaking glitch that essentially forced me to use only my fists. Nothing else. I could, for lack of a better term, "skin" them with weapons, but that was all. I will admit, I'm uncertain how much effort I put into finding out how to fix it, but at this point I was already livid with the developers, not helped by the fact that they'd practically abandoned the spinoff, Bad Blood, which I also enjoyed immensely.
tl;dr: Absolutely amazing game, be prepared to lose your g*****n mind if you encounter a gamebreaking bug the devs haven't fixed.
