Not long ago I've written a review about Half-Life 2 saying how it's probably the greatest singleplayer game of all time for me. Well, I could say pretty much the same about Portal 2 (and Portal 1).

Following up to a masterpiece like Portal? Seemed impossible, but Valve made it into reality. Portal is one of the most groundbreaking, immersive, humor packed and intelligent franchises ever. It is a love-letter to gaming, that drives innovation in every aspect like Storytelling, Gameplay, Level Design, Music and Character introduction. It goes to show, that when people have real dedication, they create timeless art. Combining puzzle-solving with a deep thought out lore is what makes it stand out from the rest. This mysterious, eerie and confined liminal feeling you get from the environments is something that I've always loved about Portal, especially the music.. it's just perfect.. What makes the story of the Portal games so unique and compelling is, that they are intertwined with the Half-Life franchise, as they play in the same universe and thus have direct connections. You truly get soaked in by the intricate details of the story and their references to the games. The writers at Valve are literal masterminds and geniuses.



For me, just like Half-Life, Portal was my childhood and will forever be one of my favorite games of all time. I grew up with it and for me it opened up a new perspective on gaming or art itself. It has inspired me to pursue Level Design as a passion and to always seek for opportunities to create new things, things that maybe can have a lasting impact on other people in the hopes of them continuing the cycle of endless creativity. Only by sharing our passion, can we bring about change - I will never see it otherwise.
