“I used to have a life. Then I crafted a rock.”

This game has ruined me. I don’t say that lightly. Rust has torn my existence apart piece by piece and replaced every part of who I was with pure, unfiltered suffering. It’s not just a game. It’s a slow, psychological decay simulator disguised as a survival sandbox.

Before Rust, I was a functioning human being. I had dreams, goals, and a sleep schedule. Now? I wake up in cold sweats screaming, “L9 on roof!” My family staged an intervention last Christmas. I missed it. I was hiding in a 1x1 with 37 HP and no meds, begging the full-metal Aks to let me keep what little I had (they didn't, ruining Christmas).

I haven’t eaten a real meal in two months. Just Uber Eats from McDonald's and handfuls of dry cereal between crafting timers. My skin is pale. My eyes are sunken. I weigh less than the gear I lose every time I get DB’d around a corner by someone named “XxX Fortnite ♥♥♥ Dumpster XxX.” My doctor says I have the vitamin D levels of a 19th-century coal miner. I can’t feel happiness anymore unless I hear the satisfying clunk of a locked TC.

Every time I close my eyes, I see a furnace. I hear the flickering sound. I hear footsteps. I hear doors opening. There are no breaks. There is no peace. My walls are covered in crude sketches of base designs. My roommate hasn't spoken to me after I screamed at him for not having an airlock on his room.

But the worst part? The thing that makes me question all my life choices? Every. Single. Paycheck.

The moment my paycheck hits, I’m on the Rust store. Skin bundles, limited-time drops, fresh new ways to burn cash on virtual flex. I tell myself I’ll skip it this time. I don’t need the neon green AK. But my mouse disagrees. Add to cart. Confirm. Regret.

It started small. Harmless, even. Just a $5 skin, something to make my rock swing feel a little more personal. Then came Forest Raider. Then Big Grin. That was the turning point.

Then came the real trap: gambling.

They took everything. My willpower. My paycheck. My rent money. I chased jackpots with 0.2% odds like they owed me something. I told myself I was investing. I told myself I was due. But the house always wins.

Now I’m broke. In debt. Living off microwave noodles. But my Steam account? Elite tier. My inventory? Stacked.

So who’s the real winner here?

(Definitely not me. But maybe… almost me.)
