Like other reviewers, if you do buy the game please check out The Authentic Colonization (TAC) or We The People (WTP) mods; they turn it from a decent experience into a far better one. TAC is more like the original 90s Colonization. WTP is far more detailed, but you might feel overwhelmed and prefer TAC to it.

Ever since this mod came out in 2006 it has been a unique experience on the Source engine. The gameplay, combining FPS and RTS elements, isn't hard to learn but takes time and effort to master. And while the community is not nearly as active as it once was, games are still frequently played on the weekends. Efforts are also underway to remake the mod on the UE4 engine.

Having last played this over 15 years ago, it's still a fun experience. Aside from the ally AI being a bit dumb at times, my only "complaint" is how short the game seems in retrospect.
