Even when the expansion is balanced around the boring as hell to use clutch claw the monsters are still just sponges.

Iceborne fans (reddit users) like to describe the MR hunts like a long story with ups and downs, a dynamic dance between the hunter and monster, fighting for openings and finding weak spots. There are moments of weakness and moments where you overcome. The monster takes you all over the map in the struggle for survival.
SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What if instead of hunting a monster you just swung your stupid weapon at it for 20 minutes straight, and every few minutes you are forced to jump onto it to wound it if you actually want to deal damage. This especially sucks because the game isn't even hard. There are some difficulty spikes, but the majority of hunts are just normal monsters except they accidentally added 2 extra numbers to their HP stat.

It just doesn't respect your time.

I mean it's alright I guess, wilds is better, rise is better, and the older games are way better. The story in world sucks, the quest system sucks, the maps suck, and the tracking really really sucks. I'm just saying there's a reason why the only people that think this is the best Monster Hunter game are the people that played it as their first. Every MH game is flawed, the series is experimental changes direction with every game, but this game has special flaws. It tries to do so many new things that it all just becomes a "one step forward two steps back" type of deal.

The only thing keeping this game from being truly bad is just because it's still a Monster Hunter game. Monster Hunter is good. Although this is not a very good Monster Hunter game.

Good movie. Kiryu's journey is very cool and he's like the yakuza guy and all that. Uh, rest of the story not so good though, it's all connected, aha! it was me all along! type story. Gameplay? Wack, the combat is bare bones, and charge attacks are broken as flip. You level up by eating... but yea it's good because kiryu is awesome.

Good movie. But it is so obvious that this is the first game they made before planning any sequels, there's a decent amount of padding, and they really throw subtlety out the window, having all the characters kill each other with machine guns and nukes.

Just adding to the pile of negative reviews so the devs actually get the message. They may have gotten closer to perfecting the Monster Hunter formula with this game, but the performance is unacceptable, and even if my PC can run it the graphical glitches are still common.

It's weird they call it the grand finale of the XIII trilogy when the story so far hasn't set up anything at all, and all you're doing are errands and chores for random people. I'm sure they'll come up with something convoluted and dumb eventually, but the first two games were interesting because they threw all the confusing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at you from the start.
That's my problem with this game, it doesn't do anything interesting that makes me want to play it. They have simultaneously expanded on the world of FFXIII and killed it by having the game take place a week before the world ends.

The game starts by having Lighting personally tasked by GOD to save the world and you see her fighting Evil Darkness Snow. That sounds interesting! But then the evil child blocks a door and the story does a one-eighty and now you teleport and take trains all over the place just to do side quests. Judging from the screenshots and trailers, there will be a goofy FF story where people come back from the dead and stuff, but why does the beginning of the game have to be a chore?

The gameplay though? It's pretty cool. XIII had 3 party members, XIII-2 had 2, and now the third game has 1 party member. Are you seeing the pattern? Square Enix wants to cut your stomach open and rip out your guts. But I will admit, you do get a lot of customisation. You're basically playing infinity nikki when you are progressing your character. And hey the stupid ATB queue system is gone, you actually press buttons to do stuff now. And you actually get to explore now, the world is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ though because it's gonna end and all that, but hey, you get to walk around and be depressed! That's better than walking in straight lines like in FFXIII, and better than the empty landscapes of FFXIII-2.

The time mechanic sucks though. As a plot device it's fine, but taking it into gameplay just sucks the fun out of the game. You're already just doing chores, wouldn't it be awesome if there was a global timer ticking down every second? I genuinely encourage commenting on this review if you think there is anything good the time mechanic does for the gameplay. From my perspective it is literally just a gimmick, and the only reason it's there is because they wanted to try something new.
Everything the time mechanic does could be executed without it. The plot could still have a time limit. You could still limit areas to certain times of day by actually planning out the route for the player, instead of making the game open world and full of roadblocks.

I'm still gonna attempt to play this game. But after FFXIII pissed in my mouth, and FFXIII-2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in my mouth, why would I swallow the ♥♥♥ of this game?
I don't know, there is just something so tedious trying to play through a trilogy that never needed more than one game in the first place.

But hey it's cheap and it runs fine so try it out, flawed games can still be enjoyable.

Early Access Review
I am reviewing the single-player experience.

From the perspective of someone who put a decent amount of time into the original Jump King this game is basically perfect so far. The movement feels effectively identical to the original game and the combat is easy to get into.
The maps are open which gives the developers a lot more freedom with level design. The platforming is relatively easy for me, but it's early game, and most of the punishment is obviously supposed to come from the combat.
The stat system is interesting, balancing your stats gives you a significant health bonus, so if you do a specialised build you miss out on HP. Armour seems to serve the function of boosting specific stats instead of just giving you +defence which means you actually want to swap pieces around for a balanced build.
So far there is so much potential in this game for someone who actually likes Jump King and Dark Souls,

There really should be a demo at some point though, a significant amount of reviewers just aren't into the niche. Can you imagine complaining that Jump King platforming is clunky? Wack.

UPDATE: Okay yeah the online is just full on desynced and laggy for anyone but the host. They said stuff on twitter so they're probably fixing it. As I'm writing this the European server seems to be completely offline which could mean (unannounced) maintenance.
