I accidentally forgot to upgrade my skills until the very last level, so I kinda played the game on extra hard.

No regrets.

Nice challenge, if you are someone who naturally wants to rush through levels, this is your game, there a lot of ways to accelerate (some intended, but the best ones most definitely not).

There are some (like maybe 2?) levels which are a bit frustrating, but this is primarily because of one type of enemy which is just obnoxiously annoying and kinda ruins the feeling of being able to do everything if you are good enough.

Ok this game has so much potential but kinda misses it by not focusing enough on the main mechanic.

Pros:

  • Soundtrack is amazing
  • Enemy encounters make you feel badass
  • Multiple ways of killing people that makes you try be more creative

Cons:
  • The guy is way too slow
  • Weapon diversity is just not there, halfway through the game you use the same two guns for everything.
  • Unnecessary stupid and frustrating jumping sections, due to movement not being great
  • Enemies can be bullet sponges and are not very different from each other

So here is my short pro and con list. Now I will try to elaborate on each of these points.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack is amazing and suits the game perfectly. If you like retrowave, this will not be a disappointing soundtrack.

Enemy encounters and multiple ways of killing

Every time you see enemies you just feel bad for them, because you know that that skateboard over there will meet that guys face in a second, followed by a perfect shot with your shotgun that lets him explode into million pieces, allowing you to kick the head of the guy (still mid air) to the next guy. Now you can focus on the other two guys by cleverly using the slo mo and dual wielding cleaning them both up. Obviously you end the last two enemies by throwing a knife into the air, wall jumping the first guy, shooting the other guy and kicking the knife into the just wall jumped guy.

So yeah you will enjoy every bit of this part.

The athletic turtle

Ok you just feel all the adrenaline from the last paragraph?

Good, because now you proceed to continue through the level and notice that the guy is the slowest thing alive. This is not even funny anymore, I wanted to rush through this like Sonic the Hedgehog, jumping like Spiderman with guns. But they decided to not give him any form of fast mobility and this just kills your adrenaline killing rush.

You saw the relase trailer? Yes I want this kind of speed, like flying through the level ripping them apart, feeling unstoppable.

Weapon diversity

Weapons are slightly different but some are just stronger than others, so you don't even bother to use the others since it will take just way too long. I don't even know how to fix this, but maybe some more creative weapons? Like a banana gun or idk.

Jumping sections and movement in general

Please end this misery. This game focus shouldn't be you thinking how you can reach the enemy, but you planning ahead how to kill them. They missed that hard sometimes. There are some very frustrating jumping sections, you try to rush through (with your turtle speed) but can't because they are slowing you down with stupid stuff like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ puzzle. The puzzle is not hard or hardly even a puzzle but you still have to think about it for a second and slow down. No please just no, not in this game.

The worst part about this, most of the jumping section wouldn't be a problem if you would move like Spiderman. So just make the movement feel better and most of this is fine.

Bullet sponges like you are playing a raid

Again why are you doing this? I want to rush through the game and not have to spend time emptying half of my magazine into an enemy.

Conclusion

So ok you may ask yourself: "Why are you recommending this game then?"

Well because I wanted a game like this so badly and I don't want the devs to freeze this project because of some kind of profit issue. This game has so much potential, but it is not quite there yet.

Amazing game. I already loved the first game and this one didn't disappoint. It isn't perfect however here are my pros and cons:

Pro:
->improved graphics
->game feels a bit more fluent
->just a lot of fun

Cons:
Don't get me wrong this game is amazing and I will start speedrunning it, but there are some flaws I didn't enjoy in my first playthrough:

->Game is way too easy. Like not even funny anymore, I first tried every boss in the game without using the broken self heal.


Platforming can be challenging sometimes but if you don't aim for 100%, easily doable.

That's about it, the level design was ok, sometimes unnecessary stretched but this game is a must play. If you played and liked the first one this one will be no different. If you didn't play the first one yet, do that before playing this one.

Okay I used to love this game, but Splash Damage does so many things wrong, I just had to uninstall at this point. Splash Damage just doesn't have a clue, what they wanna do with this game.

First they tried to be a competitive easy to learn hard to master game. Something everyone would have appreciated and loved. I am just not quite sure if they know what it means to be competitive focused.

I have no idea who has those balance ideas, but that guy clearly needs to be replaced. If someone wants to tell me they listen to the community, it clearly is the wrong side of the community. Skins and events are nice and prob important to make any revenue, but nobody I know really wants them. We want balancing and bug fixes. There is no point in selling skins if there is no player base.

And if SD decides to make a balance updates, you just ask yourself while reading through the notes:"wait wut? Who complained about this?". They recently tried to balance shotgun, sniper and burst weapons. Well, I can't say they didn't sledgehammer 2/3 of them. I can't deny that all 3 of these weapon types needed a balance in some way. I can however deny that these changes make the game more balanced.

Sniping just transformed to a defensive camping playstyle otherwise you will lose no matter what. There is no reason to play sniper anymore, I mean any auto assault rifle can do the same just better and faster. They could give snipers a faster instagib again, making playing sniper again worth it in some way.

Burst fire got a huge hit, but I mean it was clearly broken. In close and medium range it is still good but you can't snipe anymore. Thank you SD

Shotgun got no changes from my view, it is even more broken if you can aim a bit.

So now the point is: Assault rifles like Timik, M4 and hochfir are so much better in any aspect, there is literally no reason to play anything besides them. If you can't aim just go for shotgun and you will get some kills in no time. You can't even aim a little bit? No worries Proxy with any shotgun and the perk "lock on" is the merc to go with.

This game still has a huge potential, the question is: Will it ever reach it? The player base is clearly dying everyday a new player appears, 2 veterans disappear.

EDIT 18.01.18: Nothing changed yet, so I'll just edit this review every time SD released or is about to release an update.

EDIT 18.12.29: Well the game died as expected, not even surprised.
