Early Access Review
I've become quite addicted. The entire game is actually very simplistic and accessible; but with a high skill ceiling. It's very fun. There are three different drones: the spectator/recon drone, the dropper drone, and the kamikaze drone. Both the dropper and the kamikaze take different kinds of approaches to master. The controls of the kamikaze are a bit odd at first and takes getting used to, but once you get used to it you can use it for virtually every situation.

There are a few issues since the game is early access. The most glaring is that there are no repercussions or consequences for crashing or missing a drone. You have infinite drones with infinite ammunition. I can imagine that in the future you'll be limited. For example, I can see that maybe you go into a mission with 5 droppers and 10 kamikaze drones - and the drones themselves only have so much of each type of ammunition. I think this would make kills way more satisfying.

Multiplayer has a lot of potential. Because there are no negatives to spamming drones with the best ammo constantly, the coop missions last about 10 seconds. Even the most "difficult" missions (difficulty is defined in this game by how deep into a building the enemy infantry are, thus harder to hit with drones) last all of about 2-5 minutes. It is still quite fun since there isn't really any other game like it, though.

I'd like to see coop with higher stakes. Add moving vehicles, limit ammunition, add spectator (not just the spectator/recon drone, but seeing the FPV through other players) so that there can be clutching/etc.

Over all the concept is an 8/10, execution so far, being early access, is 9/10.

Excited to see where this game goes!

The game is way too hard and not as fluid as pipe. I'll change my review after further improvements.

*Edit. After an additional six hours I've officially gotten used to this game. It takes way longer to learn and there are still things to work out, but its now fun. Some of the missions are still a little too difficult.

Something doesn't feel right about this game. Really, it's just a bunch of little things that, when added together, make for a miserable experience. Here are a few:

1: The maps are not good.
Most areas in most maps are large, bare, and flat with no cover. There isn't really any good concealment in the game either, not like in Squad 44 or RS2. Nothing looks "war-torn"; instead, everything seems fairly pristine and put together. Why not add more trenches, burnt-out vehicles, collapsed buildings, foxholes, and rubble? The two maps that try it—Talil and Fallujah—are pretty bad in their own right. Talil has a vast, open, uninteresting desert dominated by vehicles, and Fallujah is too big and laggy. There is a significant lack of micro-terrain, and there is nothing interesting happening anywhere. The best map in the game, by far, is Sumari. It is mostly infantry-only, runs well, and is tight and condensed. Perhaps the only reason it’s the best map for cover and infantry is a symptom of the game's early development and was not done on purpose.

2: The gunplay is not satisfying. It's actually quite frustrating.
a. ICO
The ICO in its current implementation is not very good at all. The recoil does not feel natural, and I can't help but comment to myself every time that, in real life, I seem to be a better shooter than any character in this game. The guns feel as if your shoulder is a block of ice, and your ability to hold an object in place is destroyed by something as minor as a sneeze. It just does not feel right. The recoil is all wrong. Weapons that should have lower recoil (SMGs, LMGs) have higher recoil, while weapons that should feel like precision nail guns (assault rifles, DMRs) feel like firing artillery rounds. The recoil pattern seems more like the gun is swinging rather than punching your shoulder.
b. Lack of features
For a game where your soldier must hold still for 5-10 seconds before shooting, there is no weapon resting and no movement while "shift focusing." There are countless positions in this game where you can take cover behind a window or bunker, but it feels like none of the windows, bunkers, or general cover were meant for this game since your character is either too tall or too short. Even the cover that you can build doesn't seem to really "fit" your character. Sandbags are usable if you crouch, I guess.
Another gripe is the persistent ammo. I love the idea, but for a game where you're encouraged to shoot just for the sake of it (ICO) and dominated by good vehicle crews, it kind of seems like a slap in the face.

To put it simply, I just want my bullets to land where I'm aiming. I don't think that's asking too much from an accessible realism milsim-adjacent game.

3: Vehicles
Any match with IFVs or tanks is just that—tank/IFV vs. tank/IFV. This means that infantry combat (80 or more players in a server) is largely inconsequential if there are just 2-6 people who know what they're doing with vehicles.
The physics in the game aren't very good. There are very abnormal characteristics to how vehicles climb hills and how they react to terrain. It's hard to describe in words, but it feels like a vehicle simultaneously weighs less than a feather but also weighs more than Jupiter.

Overall, Squad is a solid 5/10 game.

I'll start with some good. The graphics are really great. This is one of those games where you take a look around, see the individual grains of sand and pebbles and think "wow, i guess graphics can matter sometimes". The vehicle combat can be fun sometimes too. This game does well with tank controls and it really does feel like you're controlling a tank and not an inflatable cup of pudding (cough squad).

The bad is that the game is just boring. Infantry combat isn't really combat. Aside from the camera being positioned directly above your waist line, all engagements feel short and unfulfilling. All kills are one taps. Which is fine on some games but it makes for what could be interesting team based shooting tactics fall really short when a single person wielding a sub machine gun can kill every single person on your team with one magazine.

Every match seems to be a steam roll one direction or another. If you're getting rolled you will die by explosives and single rifle shots that you have no idea the direction of. Your spawns will very quickly move backwards faster than it takes you to lose your current life.
If you are the team thats rolling its very boring. You basically don't die and end up walking on foot from the top of the map to the bottom and you'd be lucky to see more than one enemy.
There obviously needs to be some kind of change to gun fights in this game or better incentives for team play. If you're not somewhat going off on your own, laying in a bush and one tapping enemies than your not playing the game right IMO.

Yea, so just very boring. Not much variety to the game. You capture flags back and forth. Every game is a roll. Every bullet is a one tap (and not in a cool realistic way like other games). Virtually no teamwork involved at all, everyone just happens to be kind of in the same vicinity (if you're lucky). graphics are pretty good.

Try Post Scriptum instead
