Signalis truly left an impression on me, but not because it revealed to me something I've lived without for so long, rather, I'd say my experience with it validated my tale of life and hardship. Even for a first playthrough, its symbolism wasn't lost on me, especially when I saw that it directly used my favorite painting ever made. Once I saw it, everything fell into place, and I knew exactly what the story wanted to tell us. Perhaps a very different experience for most people, but regardless, Signalis has the ability to truly touch your heart, and I wouldn't give it up for anything in the world.

I couldn't help but no-life this game in just a day and a night. ANNO: Mutationem does an excellent job pulling you into its setting with a well-handled world and story, but the way it thematically pulls everything together be it big or small is nothing less than exceptional.

Don't let the other reviews fool you. The game can have a difficult story to understand by the end, but if you know your stuff, it builds upon itself effortlessly. It takes from Platonic ideas and Nietzsche's criticism against them, elevated into a holistically complex understanding of these metaphysics, packed down into a fun exploration of time and religion in a Cyberpunk setting, complete with a bit on fulfilled and unfulfilled dreams characteristic of such a world. Just make sure you don't get the bad end and everything should make more sense.

On that note, the game definitely wants you to explore every part of its maps. I accidentally avoided getting the bad ending because of my own knack for exploration, but you are certainly rewarded for it. On the course to obtain the true ending, you're even shown the bad ending in the process as a nod toward the worldline theory of time travel. From there, as you complete a few more tasks, you get to choose between two more endings and they are thematically in line with everything the story has built up. Just FYI, you can easily go back and make it so the bad ending doesn't happen, so just be aware that if you are shown a "what-if" cutscene and got an ending, I wholeheartedly recommend you go back and explore a little more and see what you can find.

Anyway. Excellent game. Excellent story. Highly recommended and one of the best Cyberpunk-style games to date.

I played Dark Souls for the first time when I was 12. Then I dropped it because it was too hard for me. Then I played it again 3 years later on a dare, and it became one of my favorite games. It's helped me through a lot of real-world problems as well as inspiration for writing. I absolutely adore this flawed mess, and I would recommend anyone give it a blind playthrough.

Taokaka and Bang aren't important enough. Absolutely terrible game.
But those matches can get hype
