I almost never review games, but I feel like this one may be needed.

Eiyuden Chronicles has the feel of a classic JRPG, in a beautiful 2.5D setting. The story rings true to all the best notes of a Suikoden game; Political intrigue, minigames, hero collection, and heart-warming characterizations. Putting this game down is almost impossible for me.

I don't normally leave reviews, but at the time of this writing the 'Mixed' reviews seem unjustified.

I enjoy management games, love crafting games, and getting to manage a shop is something I crave.

Blacksmith Legends is early access at present, this means bugs are expected to pop up and the dev has been active in addressing issues as they come along. This is good sign for an EA title. I fully expect to have to start over if a patch breaks my current save...that's just standard par for and early access game.

That said, I have not personally encountered any bugs thus far. I have three workers, and could manage more but I like to progress slowly—the game does not punish you for that. It's balanced, I've not had any trouble keeping up with paying my workers or heroes on top of taxes, but have come close while focusing on large Quest orders.

Quests are the gates to more content. I have my default blacksmith (who you don't need to pay), a smelter worker, alchemist, and an overseer. The smelter refines resources needed for higher-tier items, and crafts runes for further enhancing these items. Enchantment is a passive process that happens over time on an enchantment table. The alchemist crafts reagents for higher tier item crafting, as well as potions. There's various potions, some are for your workers, but mainly I've been using them on my heroes.

Adventurers explore and engage in combat on the region map. You equip them with items you've crafted, and send them out. They receive a weekly pay, and are the main source for some particular resources.

Additionally, there's the arena. You hire a gladiator, equip them, train them. Once a week there's a melee that takes place. Winning nets you a pretty bag of gold coin, and some fame.

Fame is made through furnishing your workshop, achievements, and the arena, and is the gate to how many workers you can hire. I haven't moved out of my first shop location yet, but there are two other locations at the moment you can move into if you have the coin, which offer more build space.

In short: I personally enjoy this early access game even in its present state, and am looking forward to further updates highlighted by the roadmap.

So, I was stalking a friend who was doing a little mining. Just minding my own business having a look around the pretty steep and magnificent hole he had dug out. I turn around to go have a look inside and out of no where, six or seven dogs. I run. He's safe in his little mining pit. I'm screaming. Only have a stone axe for melee, as I primarily use a crossbow. Crossbow on six or seven sprinting puppies is not a good idea. I am running in circles, no stamina, bleeding and end up getting rescued by moleman and my bro.

Now when I play I am in a perpetual state of dog-pack paranoia.

9/10. Still like dogs.
