Anyone can play this and, after enough time with it, understand what it's like to really be an engineer. It changes the way you think and immerses you in a role -- that of an engineer working through problems and coming up with solutions on their own -- far more than any RPG I've ever played.

The general skills you use and gain from this game are real. But you don't need to already have these skills to play the game. They gradually develop as part of exploring the different options you have available, baked into the way each new step in automation becomes available and worth considering.

Factorio is the ultimate "power fantasy" for those who hate doing boring repetitive work and want to see that boring repetitiveness disappear from their life, automated away by some clever contraption.

Although it might not look like much, this game deserves its place in the hall of fame of the best-rated games of all time on Steam.
